Begin:
Beginning with Row 3, CC is used for two rows, and MC is used for 4 rows. Yarn is carried loosely up the right side of shawl. (Because the color change is not always noted in the main pattern, it may be helpful to know CC is used on Rows 3, 4, 9, 10, 15,16, 21, 22, 27, 28, 33, 34, 39, 40, 45, 46, 51, 52, 57, 58, 63, 64, 69, 70, 75, 76, 81, and 82). Set Up: With MC, CO 3 sts. Knit 12 rows (you'll have 6 garter ridges). Row 1: K3, YO, PU 6 sts along garter edge, YO, PU 3 sts along CO edge (14 sts) Row 2: K3, P to last 3 sts. LeafEdging: The Leaf Edging is joined to the live sts of the shawl body by working a SSK using one edging st and one st from the last row of the shawl body at the end of every RS row. The first st of each row is slipped as follows: RS: sl sts knit-wise, with yarn in back WS: sl sts purl-wise, with yarn in front Row 1 (RS): Sl 1, Knit to last st, SSK, turn. Row 2: Sl 1, Knit to end. Row 3: SL 1, K3, (K2Tog, YO) twice, K1, (YO, SSK) twice, K3, SSK, turn. Row 4: Sl 1, P to end. Row 5: SL 1, K2, K2Tog, YO, K2Tog, K1, (YO, K1) twice, SSK, YO, SSK, K2, SSK, turn. Row 6: Sl 1, P to end. Row 7: Sl 1, K1, K2Tog, YO, K2Tog, K2, YO, K1, YO, K2, SSK, YO, SSK, K1, SSK, turn. Garter Border: With CC, PU 275 sts (one stitch for each slipped stitch of Leaf Edging, plus 2 additional sts). Knit 3 rows. Do not cut CC. With RS facing, reattach MC, knit 4 rows. Cut MC.
Lace Edging:
The Lace Edging will be attached to the shawl in the same manner as the Leaf Edging, by working an SSK using one edge stitch and one border stitch at the end of every RS row.

With CC, Cable or Knit CO 4 sts.
