Hyacinth Socks



Materials:
$100g$ fingeringweightsockyarn. Sample made in Dream in Color Starry, PansyGo Lightlycolorway. Sizes: S (7.5"), L (8.75")
Gauge: 8 spi
Needle size: I used 2.5mm needles for my gauge. Use the appropriate size for your gauge needs.
Cuff:
Cast on 60(72) stitches; divide so that there 30(32) stitches for instep, 30(40) stitches for heel. Join in the round, being careful not to twist stitches. Ribbing: $\star_{\mathsf{k}z}$ $\mathsf{p}2^{\star}$ repeat for entire round for about 1 -1.5" Work Hyacinth chart until leg is desired length, ending on either a completed row 8.
Heel flap:
Row $1\times_{S}11,\times1^{\star}$ , repeat to end of row Row 2: (WS) sl, $p29$ Rows 3-34: Repeat rows 1& 2, ending with a completed RS row. All heel flap edge stitches will be on the heel needle so decreases will occur at beginning and end of one needle.
Turn heel
On WS: sl 1, p17, p2tog, p1, turn RS: sl 1, k5, ssk, k1, turn WS: sl, p6, p2tog, p1, turn RS: sl, k8, sk, k1, turn WS: sl, p9, p2tog, p1, turn RS: sl, k10, ssk, k1, turn WS: sl, p11, p2tog, p1, turn RS: sl, k12, ssk, k1, turn WS: sl, p13, p2tog, p1, turn RS: sl, k14, ssk, k1, turn Knit up 17 stitches along left edge of heel flap (tip: pick up extra stitch between heel flap and instep and twist it while knitting - this will prevent a hole at this point and will give you 18 stitches).
Instep needle: Knit across instep in chart pattern.
Heel needle: Knit up 17 (18 if you wish to pick up the extra twisted stitch between flap and instep) along right edge of heel flap. Knit to last 3 stitches of heel needle, k2tog, k1. Instep needle: Knit across instep in chart pattern. Heel needle: K1, ssk, knit across remainder of heel needle. Repeat these 2 rounds until you have decreases back to 30 stitches on heel needle. Continue down foot, knitting allstitches on heel needle and continuing in chart pattern on instep needle until foot is $1.5"$ shorter than desired finished length. FOR SIZE L ONLy: You will now have to redistribute your stitches so that there are an even number on both instep and heel needles. Move first 2 and last 3 stitches from Instep needle to heel needle. You will have 35 stitches on each now.
Star toe:
SIZE L: start here: Row A \*k10, k2tog\* (twice), k11 (33 stitches) Row B: knit Row C: \*k9, k2tog\* Row D: knit Continue with Size S instructions
SIZE S start here:
Row $1\star\mathsf{k}8$ k2tog\* Row 2: knit Row 3: \*k7, k2tog\* Row 4: knit Row 5: \*k6, k2tog\* Row 6: knit Row 7: \*k5, k2tog\* Row 9: \*k4, k2tog\* Row 10: knit Row 11: \*k3, k2tog\* Row 12: knit Row 13: \*k2, k2tog\* Row 14: knit Row 15: \*k1, k2tog\* Row 16: knit Row 17: \*k2tog\* Break yarn leaving at least $6"$ tail. Using tapestry needle, draw yarn through remaining 6 stitches and draw tight. Weave in ends.
