Note: Pattern is written for the magic loop or 2 circular methods. Needle 1 is the front or instep needle and Needle 2 is the back or sole needle. If you want to use DPN just distribute the stitches evenly on four needles and use needle 1 and 2 for the front and needles3 and 4fortheback.

Cast on 64 Sts. I tried and love this very stretchy cast-on video can be found at this link : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wf8cY_djTRI . You can use your preferred method. Join to work in the round being careful not to twist yarn. Divide Sts to have 32 Sts per needle. Rnd 1: \*P1, K1\* 16 times per needle (16 x 2 = 32 x 2 needles = 64Sts) Repeat this Rnd a total of 16 times. Work the 8 Sts repeat Chart A: 4 times per needle (32 Sts) and once for the 6 Rnds repeat.

Work the 8 Sts repeat Chart B: 4 times per needle (32 Ssts) and work 10 Rnds repeat until piece measures about 10 cm from cast on edge ending after completing Rnd 10.

Heel flap
Move the first St of the back needle to the front needle. You now have 33 Sts on the front needle (needle 1 starts and ends with a knit St) and you have 31 Sts on the back needle (needle 2 starts and ends with a purl St). The front/instep needle with 33 Sts is put on hold while you work the heelflap on the back needle. Heel flap is worked on needle 2 only, in flat knitting (back and forth in rows). Row 1(WS): SL1P with yarn in front and P30 Row 2 (RS): SL1P with yarn in back, \*K1, SL1P with yarn in back\* 14 times: until last 2 Sts, K2 Repeat these 2 rows until heel flap is 2.5 in or up to desired length ending with a right side row.
Heel turn
Continue working back and forth using short rows as follows. Row 1 (WS): SL1P with yarn in front, P16, P2TOG, P1, turn Row 2 (RS): SL1P with yarn in back, K4, SSK, K1, turn Row 3 (WS): SL1P with yarn in front, P to 1 St before gap, P2TOG, P1, turn Row 4 (RS): SL1P with yarn in back, K to 1 St before the gap, SSK, K1 turn Repeat row 3 and 4 until all the heel Sts have been worked, omitting the last P1 and K1 on last 2 rows (17 Sts left on needle).
Gusset
Resume working in rounds, with the RS facing you, PU and knit into each slipped St along the edge of heelflap, pickup 2 additional Sts one on each side of the gap between instep and gusset and knit those 2 Sts together to avoid gusset hole. On front needle (needle 1), continue knitting in established pattern using Chart B (row 7, where you left off for the heel flap). Note: You will be working the 8 Sts repeat Chart B 4 times and then work stitch one of Chart B once, this is your border St to balance the pattern on instep (4 x8 = 32 plus 1= 33 Sts). On back needle (needle 2), pickup 2 additional Sts one on each side of the gap between instep and gusset and knit those 2 Sts together to avoid gusset hole and then PU and K a St for each slipped St along the edge knit to last 3 Sts, K2TOG, K1. Resume working in rounds. Rnd 1: Instep (needle 1): continue in established pattern (Chart B + one border St) Sole (needle 2): K1, SSK, knit to the end of needle Rnd 2: Instep (needle 1): continue in established pattern Sole (needle 2): K1, knit to last 3 Sts, K2TOG, K1 Repeat these 2 Rnds until you have the same amount of Sts on the front and the back needle, 33Sts per needle (total Sts 66). If you had picked up the same amount of Sts on each side work one less repeat on one side of the sock does not matter which one as long as you have the same number of stitches on both needles.

Foot
Continue knitting instep Sts in established pattern and sole in stockinette until foot length is approx 4.5cm less than desired length from the back of the heel turn; ending after completing row 10 of Chart B.

Set up Rnds for toei
Front needle: Work the 8 Sts repeat Chart D 4 times for 32 Sts and then work St one of chart once (4 x8 = 32 plus 1= 33 Sts) for a total of 3 Rnds. Back needle: work in stockinette for 3 Rnds
Decreases Rnds for toesi:
Round 1(regular rnd): Knit around. Round 2 (decrease rnd): Instep needle: K1, SSK, knit to last 3 Sts, K2TOG, and K1 Sole needle: K1, SSK, knit to last 3 Sts, K2TOG, and K1 Repeat Rnds 1 and 2 until you have a total of 18 Sts (9 Sts per needle) left. Graft instep and sole Sts together with Kitchener St and weave in all yarn ends and block. If you liked this pattern, the next time your local animal shelter is raising funds please make a donation. That's where I got my darling cat Charbon. These animals really need our help and support.
