FINISHED MEASUREMENTS 13.5" / 34cm from head to foot MATERIALS 5 US #2 / 3mm dpns Darning needle Fiberfill stuffing YARN 100g light worsted weight / 8 ply yarn in black 50g light worsted weight/ 8 ply yarn in white A small amount of light worsted weight/ 8 ply yarn in red GAUGE 28sts / 40 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch. (Note: gauge is not crucial for this project). ABBREVIATIONS CO= Cast on K= Knit P= Purl BO= Bind off M1= insert right needle under the running yarn from front to back. Transfer yarn loop to left needle and knit the resulting stitch (1 stitch increased) pfb= purl into the front and back of the stitch (1 stitch increased) k2tog= knit two stitches together (1 stitch decreased) p2tog= purl two stitches together (1 stitch decreased) ssk= slip stitch as if to knit, slip next stitch as if to knit, then knit these two stitches together though the back loop (1 stitch decreased) sl1= slip stitch purlwise from right to left needle sl1, k2tog, psso= slip one stitch purlwise, knit the next two stitches together, pass the slipped stitch over the stitches just worked (2 stitches decreased) HEAD Using white, CO 8 stitches. Spread stitches evenly over 4 needles and join in the round. R1 and all subsequent odd rounds: K to end R2:\* K1, M1 \* to end R4:\* K2, M1 \* to end R6:\* K3, M1 \* to end R8:\* K4, M1 \* to end R10:\* K5, M1 \* to end R11- 29: K to end R30:\* K4, k2tog \* to end R31 and all subsequent odd rounds: K to end R32:\* K3, k2tog \* to end R34:\* K2, k2tog \* to end R35-37: K to end BODY R1: Change to black and K to end R2:\* K3, M1 \* to end R3 and all subsequent odd rounds: K to end R4:\* K4, M1 \* to end R6:\* K5, M1 \* to end R7-45: K to end R46: K12, slip next 24 stitches to a holder. Leave final 12 stitches on a second needle. LEGS #Hold the two needles parallel to each other as if to perform a three needle bind-off. K22 rounds even. Lightly stuff leg with fiberfill. ## Transfer stitches from needle 2 onto needle 1, and the stitches from needle 4 onto needle 3. Repeat from # to ##. Heel flap: Work the next 12 stitches back and forth in rows. R1: sl1, K11 R2: sl1, P11 Repeat these two rows 3 times more. Turn heel: sl 1, K8, w&t P4, w&t K4, ssk, w&t P5, p2tog, w&t K6, ssk, turn. P7, p2tog, turn (8 stitches on needle 1) K8 stitches using needle 1, then pick up 5 stitches along the side of the heel flap. K across needles 2 and 3. Pick up 5 stitches along the side of the heel flap with needle 4, then K4 stitches fron needle 1. (30 stitches total) R1: K to last 2 stitches on needle 1, k2tog, K12, ssk, K to end of the round. R2: K to end Repeat these two rounds 2 times more. K 2 rounds even. Next round:\* K4, k2tog \* to end Next round: K to end Next round:\* K3, k2tog \* to end Next round:\* K2, k2tog \* to end Stuff foot with fiberfill. Next round:\* K1, k2tog \* to end Next round: k2tog to end (4 stitches total) Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread through remaining stitches and pull tight. Hide yarn end inside toy. Second leg: Return remaining 24 stitches to two needles (12 stitches each needle). Work as for first leg. ARMS (Make 2) Using black, CO 18 stitches. Divide over 4 needles (5 stitches on needles 1 and 3, 4 stitches on needles 2 and 4). Join in the round. R1-33: K even. Slip the stitches from needle 2 onto needle 1 and the stitches from needle 3 onto needle 4. Hold the two needles parallel to each other as if to perform a three needle bind-off. You will be working stitches from each needle alternately onto a third needle, as follows- K stitch on the front needle, P stitch on the back needle, Continue until all stitches have been worked and the third needle holds 18 stitches. Turnwork. You will now return the stitches to two separate needles. Alternating between two needles, work stitches as follows- slip first stitch to first needle, slip next stitch to second needle. Continue until each needle holds 9 stitches. Next round: sl1, K4 stitches with needle 1, K4 stitches with needle 2, K5 stitches with needle 3, and K4 stitches with needle 4. Join in a round. K32 rounds even. Rearrange the stitches so there are now 3 needles, with 6 stitches on each needle. Continue working in the round. Next round:\* K4, k2tog \* to end. Stuff forearm with fiberfill. Next 6 rounds: Change to white and K to end Stuff hand with fiberfill. Next round:\* K3, k2tog \* to end Next round:\* K2, k2tog \* to end Next round:\* K1, k2tog \* to end Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread through remaining stitches and pull tight. Hide yarn end inside toy. SHIRT Using white, CO 12 stitches. Work back and forth in rows R1 (ws): P R2 (rs): K R3:P R4: K1, ssk, K to last 3 stitches, k2tog, K1 R5: P Repeat R4-5 twice more. R10: K1, ssk, k2tog, K1 R11: P R12: ssk, k2tog R13: p2tog Break yarn. Pull through remaining stitch and fasten off. TIE Using red, CO 5 stitches. Work back and forth in rows. R1:P R2: ssk, K1, k2tog R3:P R4: sl 1, k2tog, psso R5: pfb R6: K R7:P BO all stitches. LAPELS (make 2) Using black, CO 12 stitches. R1: P R2: K R3:P R4: K1, ssk, K6, k2tog, K1 Bind off all stitches purlwise.
FINISHING
Stuff upper arms with fiberfill, leaving some space near the top of the arm. Fold arm horizontally across the seam, as shown.

Whip stitch this edge together to create a flat seam. Using mattress stitch, sew arms to shoulders of toy. Using mattress stitch, attach shirt to the centre front of the chest, with the top edge aligned with the neck. With an unobtrusive running stitch, attach tie to the centre of the shirt, with the top edge aligned with the neck. Using mattress stitch, attach the lapels to the sides of the shirt, leaving the outside edges unattached. Weave in any ends.
