Artsy Scarfy

Finished Measurement: 2.5" x 11" when wearing around your neck Measurements before seaming together: 2.5" x 22" Materials: (This is fun!) Choose a chunky yarn, or a worsted held with a novelty, just about anything that knits up to your liking. Approx 1 oz (or 30 grams) of yarn. Choose beautiful colors, and snip its of various yarns to embellish with. Needles: Choose needles that are a tad big for your yarn. You want this somewhat loose. I used US1o on one, and US1 on another. Gauge is not important as long as you like the look of your knitted fabric.

Garter Stitch \~ Knit every row. CO \~ cast on K2Tog \~ Knit 2 stitches together You have 3 versions to choose from: 1-Straight Up (blue scarfy above is this version) 2-Sway with Me (green scarfy on next page) 3-Turn Here (purple scarfy $@$ right is this version)
Directions:
1-Straight $\mathbf{Up}$
CO 6 or number required to equal $2^{\circ}-2.5^{\circ}$ . Knit in Garter stitch until you have 22". Bind off. Now place one end over the other end and stitch together. You will put your artsy part over this area so it does not have to be perfect. It's artsy, remember?
$_{2}-S$ way with Me
CO 1o or number required to equal 3.5". Knit in Garter stitch for $6^{\circ}$ . On the next row you'll K2Tog somewhere during the row. Continue knitting another $6^{\circ}$ , then Kztog again. Repeat by knitting $6^{\circ}$ more and Kztog so you'll have 7 sts on the home stretch. K until you have 22" and bind off. Join ends together as described above.
3-Turn Here
This one is knit length-wise with a U-turn near the end. Cast on 6o, knit 10-12 rows until you get the desired width you like. NOW, bind off keeping the last stitch on your needle. Turn your work and pick up 1 st for each purl bump (or every 2 rows on edge). Mine was 8 or 9 sts picked up along the short edge. Knit in garter stitch until piece measures 22" or so. Bind off and join as described above.
Embellishment Ideas for Artsy Scarfy
Now, for the fun part! Get creative! Pick the perfect button or several, find some beads, gather up some yarn scraps and get started. Sew your button on at the join or wherever you like. Attach various strands of yarn. Put on your beads, buttons or whatever you like and voila, there you have it!
