SHET AHAD THE SEVEN SISTERS
..is a narrow, beaded scarf basically designed for tribal dancers as a tieing band, headband or bun cover. The design is based on Assuit cloth. Whilde fiddleing around with the charts I came up with the symbol in repeat 2 which reminded me of tuareg symbols I had seen. I googled but could not find the symbol- but I picked a phrase from the Berber language as a name: The Shet Ahad is the Berber name for , the seven sisters"- the pleiads. Since the pattern has seven little diamonds it seemed fitting. The second design is based on the moon cross, which acts as a protective symbol (with the crescents showing. outwards) and depicts the four phases of the moon. \* It felt right considering nomads like the berber tribes always had a strong connection to sun, moon and stars. This is by no means a traditional design, I made it up because I wanted a bun cover matching my Tulle-bi-tellistole but easier to knit. I think this little scarf would make a great gift for every tribal dancer. With the lace line on top and bottom it could also be made into a bag- just sew the sides together and put a ribbon through the wholes on the upper side. \*out of,The Woman's Dictionary of Symbols and Sacred Objects" by Barbara G. Materials can be freely chosen. Just make sure beads and wool match. I would recommend a shiny non-fuzzy and nonelastic yarn to bring out the beads as well as possible. Black and silver looks very good. I have not included any explanation onhow to knit in beads but there are plenty on the web.Iuse a very thin crochet hook that I put in the stitch as if to knit, put a bead on it, pullthe yarn through bead and stitch. CO 2+25+2 = 29 stitches Always knit the first and last 2 stitches (those are not included in the chart!). Row 4o and 41 are missing from the chart! They are to be knit as rows 13 and 14. Knit 3 rows. Knit according to chart until you get to repeat 1. now you can mix and match repeat 1 and 2 as often as you want in the order you like. The smallest scarf would be to knit until row 41, turn the page around and knit row 23 to 1. Knit 3 rows. BO loosely. vs the right side rows- always purl the back rows. The blank boxes are to be knitted on RS, purl on V To prevent the sides from rolling you can do a solid edge RS: k, yo, k2tog .... ssk, yo, k WS: p or a lacier edge RS: p,k,p WS: K,p,k
/ =k2tog 0= yo | B= place bead |
