Materials:
1 Skein of fingering weight yarn color A (main color) 1 Skein of fingering weight yarn color B (optional contrasting color) Crochet hook (US E/4 or 3.5 mm) Stitch markers Buttons or safety eyes Tapestry needle Stuffing material About the yarn: I used Schachenmayr Catania cotton and used a US size E/4 crochet hook (3.5mm). This resulted in monsters that where approximately 12 cm tall. Check the skein of yarn to see which hook is most fit for the yarn. Depending on choice of yarn and hook your Rooly will vary in size. Basics: All the pieces of the monster are started with 6 SC in a magic circle. You'll be working in one continuous spiral, no closing of the rounds is needed. Use a stitch marker to mark the start of each round. Its easiest if you take the ends while you go and hook them in straight away, saves time darning the ends. 1 SC 6 in a MC (6] 2 Inc all (12) 3 \*SC 1, inc next\* repeat \* x 6 (18) 4 \*SC 2, inc next\* repeat \* x 6 (24] 5 \*SC 3, inc next\* repeat \* x 6 (30) 6 \*SC 4, inc next\* repeat \* x 6 [36] 7-17 SC all [36] 18 \*SC 5, inc next\* repeat \* x 6 (42] 19 \*SC 6, inc next\* repeat \*x 6 (48] 20-25 SC all [48] 26 \*SC 6, sc2tog\* repeat \*x6 (42] 27 \*SC 5, sc2tog\* repeat \*x 6 [36] 28 \*SC 4, sc2tog\* repeat \* x6 (30) 29 \*SC 3, sc2tog\* repeat \* x6 (24] Start filling the body firmly 30 \*SC 2, sc2tog\* repeat \* x 6 (18) 31 \*SC 1, sc2tog\* repeat \* x 6 (12) 32 \*sc2tog\* repeat \* x 6 [6] Fasten off and close with a few stitches. ⊙ 2015 Undercover Otter. Sew them onto the bottom of the body with a ladder stitch
Skirts (optional):
If you want to add a skirt to your Rooly, follow the body pattern up till round 24: 24 SC through back loops only! (48] 25 SC all [48] Then pick up round 26 again from the body pattern till the end. With a contrasting color you can add a skirt in the front loops of row 24. Depending on if you're right or left handed figure out which way around you need to hold your Rooly for the 'pretty' side to face upwards. I'm right handed and in my case I had to point the 'head' of my Rooly towards me to make the skirt look smooth.
Circle skirt:
Pick up the yarn through the first loop and SS in place. Chain 2 (counts as a DC), DC 2 times in same loop, DC 3 in each following loop. When at end: SS into second chain from start, fasten off, darn in ends. If you want the skirt to be more 'crumpled' use 4 DC's per loop instead of 3.
Petal skirt:
Pick up the yarn through the first loop and SS in place. Skip 1 loop, DC 6 times in next loop, skip 1 loop and SS in next repeat this all the way round. Fasten off, darn in ends.

If you want a pointy skirt, follow the same pattern as thepetalskirt but instead of DC 6 times: DC 3 times, chain 2, SS in second chain from hook lyou've just made a picot point!) and then DC 3 times in same loop. Hair: Basically to add hair to Rooly I've cut double lengths of yarn and threaded them through the head. Easiest is to do this when you get to round 20 on the body (so you can still alter things inside the body). I decided early on that I wanted 2 side braids, so I had to thread hair through the front, back and center parting. It takes a lot of time to do this, but in the end it will make your monster look super cute! TIP:doa searchon theinternetfor'doll hair how to' and you will find tons of resources withhelpfulhints!
Finishing:
To finish your Rooly off sew some buttons (or safety eyes] in place for eyes and give him, or her, a little mouth with black embroidery floss. You could vary the angle or give your Rooly a tongue [with some red embroidery floss] or some buck teeth [white embroidery flossl. Get creative!
