You'll need
220 yds (140 for shorter) of fingering weight yarn for a gauge of 25 to 26sts for 4" (stockinette stitch). One size that will fit almost any hand and wrist. I used Capretta from Knit Picks for long wrist-warmer and Vintage from Biscotte & cie for shorter one. Double-pointed needles of 3mm Cable needle about same size

Instructions
The Mitts \*P3, k2\* 8 times, p3, k2, 16sts of chart, k2. Work rows 1 fo chart, 3 times. Chart (between 2 thick lines) will be worked 3 times in all. At same time, you'll dec on 1st and 2nd dpns in p sts: p3k2 will become: p2k2. Work p2sts tog twice on a row on rows 7 and 19. Never in chart section (3rd dpn)! After row 7 and 19 of 2nd repeat, then on row 7 of 3rd repeat. You'll have 54 total sts: 16-18-20. Begin thumb gusset on 9th row. XWork thumb gusset in 1st k2 sts of 1st dpn. Inc 2sts apart those 2sts and every 4 rows. N.B. After row 24, use chart B. Continue inc in thum gusset up to 12 sts (including the 2 that were there). You're at row 4b of chart. On row 5b, put the 12 sts of gusset on hold. Co 3 sts at thumb placement. Continue to work in round. After 2 rounds, dec of one sts at thumb hole to turn back to your k2 you had just before beginning gusset. Finish chart, and work the last row, 3 times. Take back your 12 sts on hold and replace them on 2 dpns. Pick up 6 sts along hole (palm side). Work 2 or 3 k rows, then bind off. Left hand: Co 63sts and divide same way you did for right hand. Begin chart as for right hand. Change cable chart as shown for rows: 5, 9, 17 and 21, and at very end: 5band 9b. Gusset will be made on last k2 sts on 2nd dpn.
For a shorter wrist-warmer
Co 54sts. Divide sts like this: 16 on 1st dpn, 18 on 2nd, and 20 on 3rd. \*p2, k2\* 9 times, 16sts of chart, p2. Work row 1 of chart, 3 times. The repeated section of chart (between thick lines) will be worked twice in all. There are no decreases in psts as for long wrist warmer. At 2nd repeat, on row 9, work as for long glove (go at )
