Gauge:

18 sts and 22 rows = 4"[10 cm] in St st unblocked this is a stiff gauge. Row gauge is most important to match in this pattern

Notes:

· The adult size takes almost every scrap of yarn, so get gauge and leave a short tail before the knot on the Long Tail Provisional cast on. · This pattern is worked back and forth from band to crown, which is Kitchenered together at the back of the hat. Many rows don't go to the edges on either side. · The number in parentheses at the end of the row is the number of stitches between wrap & turns or the end of the row. The childs are before the slash and the adult is after. If there is only one number is applies to all sizes. · A small adult might be able to get away with not knitting the fit wedge at the back of the hat.

Directions:

Using the long-tail provisional CO 32(38)sts with a short tail at the knot, this pattern uses almost every inch of yarn.

Either all of one or a mix bag. Stop knitting wedges once you reach 15" at the end of a wedge repeat across the garter stitch band. For the child's version, continue to finishing.

Row 34: K all. Fit wedge: Adult size only Row 1: k5, p3, w&t. (8) Row 2-10: k all. Row 3: k4, p3, pick up wrap and purl together with stitch, p1, w&t. (10) Row 5: k5, p5, pick up wrap and purl together with stitch, p1, w&t. (12) Row 7: k4, p5, w&t. (10) Row 9: k5, p3, w&t. Finishing:
