Materials
1) About 1300 yards of lace weight yarn, but very dependent on your gauge, the finished size you want and your yarn and needle choice.

2) Needles that work with your yarn: Set of 5 double points, 12 or 16" and 24 or 32" circulars. I using Used #1 3) Beads of your choice. I used #8 Japanese beads and I bought one long tube. Total beads used=just under 600, but get extra for dropping. 4) A crochet hook that fits into your selected beads. I am using US#13 5) Smooth waste yarn if you're using my cast-on 6) Yarn needle for weaving in ends and tightening cast-on 7) T-pins for blocking 8) Stitch markers: I am only using one for the start of my row, but I conceptualized this, so I have a clear sense of where I'm going. I suggest you use one between each section, using a different color for each of the section types, until you feel comfortable with where this is going.
Instructions
1) Cast-on four stitches using a circular cast-on of your choice. 2) All even number rows on the chart are knit, and are not charted. I won't mention them again. This is a square, so everything is repeated four times (once for each side of the square) and I won't go their again either. 3) Follow chart A:1 for rows 1-17 4) On row 19, begin row 3 of Chart A:1 again, over each magenta square on row 17 (This is now section 2.) The magenta square on row one becomes the magenta square on row 17. 5) At the same time, you will be following Chart A:2 rows 19-25 (this is now section 1.) You are working both sections 1 and 2 at the same time, from two different charts. 6) When you get to row 17 on section 2, change that section over to chart B, row 1. 7) Don't forget to continue with rows 19-25, which repeat for section1 (there are four.) 8) Complete Chart B, rows 1-15 for section 2. 9) On the next row, section 2 will begin Chart C, section 1 continues Chart A, rows 19-25, and section 3 is started, over the magenta square on row 15 of Chart B, beginning with Chart A:1, row 3. 10) For section 2, row 1 of Chart C, the bright blue stitches (beads) should be done by picking up the bar between two stitches, making a new stitch, inserting the bead onto the new stitch and continuing on. On this row, there are a total of 16 stitches increased (and not the usual 8.) 11) At this point, working your way around the row, you knit: \* Chart C, Chart A:1, Chart C, Chart A:2,\* four times around. 12) At this point: A:1 will always transition to chart B. C will transition to Chart A:2. Every time you get to a row 7 on Chart C, change that section to Chart A:2. Every time you get to a row 15 on Chart B, change to C, A:1, C. Every time you get to a row 17 on Chart A:1, Change to Chart B. Just keep going

I repeated Chart B (the corner expansion) five times for each of the four corners before moving to the border. Use markers between each section to help keep it straight, with four markers that are different to distinguish the four corners. Keep the start of the row clear also. The start will end up in the center of one of the sides and not at a corner, so keep that marked. Once your piece is about the size you want, after completing a chart B, transition to the border charts. Chart D1 flows from each chart A2 along all four sides. Chart D2 flows from the chart B at each or the four corners. At the end of the D charts: Purl row 30, knit row31 and cast-offvery looselyby knitting two stitches, returning both stitches to the left-hand needle, knitting two stitches together. \* Knit one, return two to lefthand neede, knit two together\* until ll stitches are castoff Block it and send me a picture to post! Ideas: Make in cobweb weight silk and only use beads in the border for a wedding veil. Make in fingering weight fine merino, cashmere of cashmere silk and omit all beads for a Christening shawl. Make in sport weight cotton and omit the beads for an elegant bedspread.

Notes: Place bead: knit the stitch, put a bead on the shaft of crochet hook, lit the new stitch off your needle with the hook and slide the bead onto the stitch, place the stitch on your right-hand needles and carry on.
