Pattern Notes
My nephew wanted a treat and I came up with these. They are quick to make from scrap yarn, the crazier the better!
Yarn
Michael's Loops and Threads Impeccable Yarn
Needles
Size 7 DPNs or as desired-gauge is not important.
Notions
Safety eyes, scrap yarn, yarn needle, embroidery needle, fiberfill, felt.
Pattern Stitches
KFB: Knit in the stitch, leave stitch on the needle and knit into the back. 2 stitches made. K2tog: Knit two stitches together
Directions
Body: Cast on 12 stitches. Join in the round and place marker at first stitch. Knit 14 rows. Row 15: \*K1, K2tog, K1\*, repeat 2 more times to end of row (9 stitches). Row 16: If desired, while knitting this row, temporarily reduce number of needles in use to 3. \*K1, K2tog\* repeat to end. Row 17: \*K1, KFB\* repeat 2 more times to end of row (9 stitches). Row 18: \*K1, KFB, K1\* repeat 2 more times to end of row (12 stitches). (If desired, change to contrasting color yarn for head.) Row 19: \*K1, KFB, K1\* repeat 3 more times to end of row (16 stitches). Knit 4 rows. Row 24: \*K1, K2tog, K1\* repeat 3 more times to end of row (12 stitches). If using a plastic safety eye(s) insert them into the head and attach now. Row 25: \*K1, K2tog, K1\* repeat 2 more times to end of row(9 stitches). Stuff head with fiberfill. Row 26: \*K1, K2tog\* repeat 2 more times to end of row (6 stitches).

For Hairy Puppet: Break off yarn leaving a few inches excess. Thread through remaining stitches and pulltight, closing off head. Weave in ends. With contrasting yarn, thread a darning needle. At the top of the head, loop thread several times to make long hair. Cut each loop at the top and tie in a knot. For Icord topped Puppet: Knit 2tog three times (3 stitches). With all stitches on one needle, use contrasting yarn, knit i-cord to desired length. Bind off three stitches, weave in end. For Bubble-Head Puppet: Knit 1, K2tog twice (4 stitches). Change to contrasting yarn if desired. K1, KFB twice (6 stitches). K1, KFB, K1 twice (8 stitches). Knit 2 rows. K1, K2tog, K1 twice (6 stitches). K1, K2tog twice (4 stitches). Break yarn, weave in end. Finishing: For embroidered face, use thread or small yarn to add eyes and mouth as desired. For felt backed eyes, trim a piece of felt in desired shape and attach with brass tacks or buttons.
