In case you hadn't noticed, I'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to books. I obsessively read science fiction and fantasy novels for pure entertainment value, and I've even been known to get sucked into the occasional young adult series. This shawl was born from my love of Harry Potter, and one of my favorite characters in particular: Luna Lovegood. The unique size and shape of the shawl remind me of something that Luna would wear, andis perfect for her unconventional wardrobe. When knit with sport weight yarn, the shawl becomes a delicate shawlette. Depending on your preferred method of wearing a thicker, rounded shawl, you may want to grab a shawl pin to help keep the shawl in place. When knit with fingering weight, the shawl becomes a delicate layering piece.

Fingering weight, medium 16 inches deep, 45 inch wingspan
Instructions
I would suggest grabbing an extra skein of yarn: both samples shown were very close on yardage.
Needles
Both weights: one US 6 (4.0mm) circular needle, 24" or longer.
Gauge
Sport weight: 4.5 sts per inch, 6.5 rows per inch. Stockinette stitch. Fingering weight: 5 sts per inch, 7 rows per inch. Stockinette stitch. Set-up instructions are not charted. The lace and cable stitch patterns are charted and written. Please be sure to read through the instructions completely before knitting. The cable and lace charts do not include the yarn overincreases or the garterstitchborder. These areincluded in the written instructions. For ease of blocking, instructions are provided for an optional garter stitch edge. This will help prevent the slight wave present at the shawl's edge. If you prefer to work from the charts, you will need to read through the written instructions (next page) briefly.
