Lovecraft's Bane - Cthulhu Hat

Yarn - Cascade 220 Superwash Sport; 1 skein chocolate, 819 (main color), 1 skein moss, 841 (contrast color) Needles - US 1 (2.5mm) and US 3 (3.25mm) in 16" circular; US 3 (3.25mm) DPN, or size needed for gauge Gauge - 24 st and 28 rows = 4" on larger needles in stockinette stitch Size -Adult: 21" circumference Notions - smooth waste yarn for provisional cast-on; 4 stitch markers, 1 a different color/style for beginning of round; darning needle for finishing ends
Pattern

· Using your preferred provisional cast-on method, cast on 128 provisional stitches. · Join main color and knit one row joining for circular knitting and placing marker at beginning of round. Purl round two, placing remaining three markers after stitches 32, 64, and 96 to mark each repeat of the chart. Begin to work chart. All rounds are knitted for stockinette stitch and the chart is repeated 4 times for each round. When you reach round 46 and begin to decrease, change to size 3 Double Pointed Needles (DPN) as required. When last round (#58) of chart is completed, knit one more round, knitting the three stitches between the green stripe together. You will have 16 stitches remaining. Cut yarn and thread both colors through remaining 16 stitches, pull tight, fasten and weave in ends. waste yarn and place stitches on size 1 needle. Join main color and knit one round.

On next round \*K10, K2tog\* and repeat to end of round, 10 stitches decreased. Knit in stockinette stitch until lining measures 2 % inches. Do not bind off. Cut yarn leaving a 2 yard tail. Turn lining to inside of hat along purl round and lightly steam to keep in place. Using the darning needle, one at a time slip a stitch from the knitting needle, run the yard tail through the stitch, and tack it to the inside of the hat, making sure the tacks do not show. Weave in ends. Wash and block as needed. Note: This graph has several long color runs. It is recommended that you catch the non-working yarn about every 4 to 5 stitches as required to reducepossiblesnaggingwhenworn.
