MATERIALS

Brown Sheep Serendipity Tweed, 60% cotton/40% wool (210 yds/100g per skein): 2 (3, 3, 3, 4) skeins #ST48 Denim Aster (MC), 1 (2, 2, 2, 2) skeins #ST84 Nebraska Wheat (CC) Size 4 (3.5mm) straight and 16" circular needles Size 6 (4mm) needles or size needed to obtain gauge Stitch markers and holders

22 sts x 32 rows = 4" in Waffle Stitch with larger needles To save time and ensure proper fit, take time to check gauge.

DESIGNER NOTES

Slip all sts purlwise with yarn on WS of fabric (with yarn in back on RS rows, with yarn in front on WS rows). Always work first and last st of every row, keeping 1 stitch at each edge in St st; do not slipedgests. Work inc and dec 1 st in from edge.

Pattern illustration

Carry color not in use up right edge, being careful not to pull too tightly. When binding off at armhole or neck, cut remaining color and reattach at new edge. Pattern stitch may also be worked in 1 color; work all rows with MC.

STITCH GLOSSARY

M1 (Make 1): Make a backwards loop and place on RH needle. 3-Needle Bind-off: With shoulder sts on 2 needles, place RS together. K2tog (1 st from each needle) twice. lift first st of right needle over second st (1 st bound off), knit next 2 sts tog (one from each needle); rep from \* until desired sts have been bound off.

With MC and smaller needles, cast on 73 (77, 83, 89, 95) sts. Work even in 1/1 Rib until back measures 1% (2, 2, 2, 2) ending with a RS row. Knit 1 row. Change to larger needle and work even in Waffle st until back measures approx 7 (8, 10, 11%, 12%2)" ending with Row 4 of pat.

Shape armholes

FRONT

Work as for back until armhole measures approx 3 (3%2, 4, 4, 412)" above bound-off underarm sts, ending with Row 4 of pat.

Shape neck

Next row (RS): With MC, k16 (17, 16, 18, 19); join second ball of MC, k23 (23, 27, 27, 29) and place sts just worked on holder for front neck, k16 (17, 16, 18, 19) sts. Working both sides of neck with separate balls of yarn, dec 1 st at each neck edge every RS row 3 times—13 (14, 13, 15, 16) sts. Work even on remaining sts until armhole measures same as for back above bound-off underarm sts.

SLEEVES

With smaller needles and B, cast on 45 (47, 49, 53, 55) sts. Work even in 1/1 Rib until cuff measures 1% (2, 2, 2, 2)" ending with Row 2 of pat. Knit 1 row. Change to larger needles. Working in Wafle st, inc 1 st each end every 4th row 4 (6, 8, 10, 8) times, then every 8th row 7 (6, 5, 5, 8) times-67 (71, 75, 83, 87) sts. Work even in pat until sleeve measures 13 (13%2, 14%2, 16, 17%2)" from beg, or desired length to underarm.

Shape sleeve cap

Mark each end st. Work even for 1 (1, 1, 1%4, 1%2)" more, ending with Row 2 of pat. Dec 1 st each end every RS row 4 (4, 6, 6, 6) times - 59 (63, 63, 71, 75) sts. Bind off knitwise on WS.

NECKBAND

Join shoulder seams using 3-needle bind-off. Beg at left shoulder with RS facing, using smaller circular needle and MC, pick up and knit 13 sts along left neck edge, knit across 23 (23, 27, 27, 29) front neck sts, pick up and knit 13 sts along right neck edge, knit across 29 (29, 33, 33, 35) back neck sts-78 (78, 86, 86, 90) sts. Join, placing marker between first and last st. Purl 1 rnd. Ribbing Rnd: \*K1, p1; rep from \* around. Rep Ribbing Rnd until neckband measures 2". Bind of loosely in rib.

ASSEMBLY
