BAMBOLINO CARDI

This pattern, remixed from 'A very plucky cardigan' by Kate Hiester, is seamless, worked in one piece, top-down. I worked some short-rows in the back to raise the neck. The buttons are handmade by me with the same yarn of the cardi. For more details see: Dorset buttons One size: M Yarn: Rosarios 4 Bambolin Print, 4 skeins 100 g/140 m (612 yards), or any Aran-weight yarn Needle 32" circular, size US 9 (5,5 mm) Gauge: 16 sts/22 rows = 4" in St st Note: in this pattern I used the Short-rows with YO and the Backward YO on the purl side (see descriptionbelow)
Stitch Guide
Kf&b: knit into front and back of the same st (1 st increased) SSP: slip, slip, purl 2 slipped sts tog through the backloop Seed st: k1, p1 to end; next row: knit the purl sts and purl the knit sts YO Backward (YO on the purl side is worked in the opposite direction): bring yarn to back under the right needle,lift the yarn over the needle and bring it to front (toward you), continue purling row Short-rows with Yo: on Rs, knit to the turn point, turn work, yo backward, continue purling row to turn point, turn work, yo as usual, knit to next turn point, etc. To conceal short rows, on the RS knit to yo, correct stitch mount of yo twisting it, then k2tog (yo with next st); on the WS, purl to yo, SSP (yo with next st) Cable Pattern with slipped stitches (8 sts x 16 rows): Set-up row (WS): k1, p6, k1 Row 1 (RS): p1, k2, slip 2 sts purlwise with yarn in back, k2, p1 Row 2: k1, p2, slip 2 sts purlwise with yarn in front, p2, k1 Row 3: p1, RC [slip 2 sts onto cn and hold in back, k1, k2 from cn], LC [slip 1 st onto cn and hold in front, k2, k1 from cn], p1 Row 4: k1, p6, k1 Rep rows (1-4) 3 times, then knit 4 rows working the sts as they appear, knitting the knits and purling the purls. Rep rows (1-16) for the pattern (see the chart below)
NECK
Cast on 81 sts, don't join. Work 6 rows in Seed st. Last row decrease 1 st = 80 sts Set up row with buttonhole: work 5 sts in seed st, p1, k6, p1, k4 (left front) - pm - k9 (left sleeve) - pm - k10, p1, k6, p1, k10 (back) - pm - k9 (right sleeve) - pm - k4, p1, k6, p1, 2 sts in seed st, yo, p2tog, 1 seed st (right front) = 17+9+28+9+17 Next row: work in seed st the first and last 5 sts and the remaining sts as they appear, knitting the knits and purling the purls. Rep row with buttonhole every 16 rows 2 more times
RAGLANS
Row 1 (RS) with increases: 5 seed st, work row 1 of Cable Pattern, (knit to 1 st before m, Kf&b, sl m, Kf&b) 2 times, knit to Cable Pattern, work row 1 of Cable Pattern, (knit to 1 st before next m, Kf&b, sl m, Kf&b) 2 times, knit to Cable Pattern, work row 1 of Cable Pattern, 5 seed st. Row 2 (Ws): 5 seed st, purl to last 5 sts, 5 seed st. Work on in pattern [increasing every RS row 1 st before and after every m (8 sts increased) - on the WS rep row 2] 20 more times or until the raglan line reaches the underarm easily. =38+51+70+51+38 = 248 p
Divide body and sleeves
Work left front + 1 st of left sleeve, place 49 left sleeve sts on holder or waste yarn, cast on 5 sts, knit left sleeve's last st + back sts + 1 st of right sleeve, place 49 right sleeve sts on holder or waste yarn, cast on 5 sts, knit last sleeve st + right front = 160 sts for the body Short-rows (optional) are used to raise the back for a better wearability. Note: meanwhile you knit short rows, keep working the cable pattern After few rows, place a m at center underarm (about 42 sts from beginning and end of row ); on Rs, work to 10 sts from 2nd m, turn work, yo backward, purl to 10 sts from 1st m, turn work, yo as usual, knit to yo of previous row, adjust stitch mount and k2tog (yo with next st); knit to 5 sts from 2nd m, turn work, yo backward, purl to yo of previous row, SSP (yo with next st). Purl to 5 sts from 1st m, turn work, yo as usual, knit to yo of previous row, correct st mount of yo and knit it tog with next st. Knit to 2nd m, remove it, turn work, yo backward, purl to yo of previous row, SSP (yo with next st), purl to 1st m and remove it, turn work, yo as usual, knit to yo of previous row, correct st mount and knit it tog with next st, knit to end of row. SLEEVES
Place 49 sleeve sts onto needle, pick up 7 sts from underarm (5+1 each side to close the gap), join in the round = 56 sts total. Knit 4 rounds in seed st. BO in pattern. Buttons: sew 3 buttons on the buttonband opposite to the buttonholes. The Dorset buttons are handmade with the same yarn of the cardi.
