Materials:
Yarn: Weight #4 Worsted / Aran in at least 2 different colours. There are many options for how you can arrange your colours on this square. For ease I have noted colour changes on each round referred to in this pattern as YARN A, B, C and D Hook: 5.5 mm / US size I You will also need: A Yarn Needle
Gauge:
Size: 12 inch x 12 inch / 30.5cm x 30.5cm 7 tr/dc = 2 inches / 5 cm These measurements are approximated, and actual subjects may vary. Pattern will work in other yarns though gauge/size will be different. CHECK YOUR GAUGE, use any size hook to obtain gauge.

Stitch Guidance:
Slip Stitch (sl st): Insert hook in st indicated, yarn over and draw through all loops. UK Double Crochet/US Single Crochet (dc/sc): Insert hook in st indicated and draw up a loop (two loops on hook), yarn over, draw through both loops onhook. UK Front Post Double Crochet / US Front Post Single Crochet (fpdc/fpsc): Yarn over and insert hook from the frontto the back around the post of the st on the previous row. Complete as for regular dc/sc
UK Half Double Treble / US Half Double
Crochet (htr/hdc): Yarn over, insert hook in next st and draw up a loop (three loops on hook), yarn over, draw through all three loops on hook. UK Treble / US Double Crochet (tr/dc): Yarn over, insert hook in next st and draw up a loop (three loops on hook), yarn over, draw through two loops, yarn over, draw through remaining two loops on hook. UK Double Treble / US Treble (dtr/tr): Yarn over twice, insert hook in next st and draw up a loop (four loops on hook), yarn over, draw through two loops, yarn over, draw through two loops, yarn over, draw through remaining two loops on hook.
Pattern:
Rnd 1: With YARN A; either make a magic ring (adjustable ring) to start or ch 2, (doesn't count as a st), crochet 16 htr/hdc into the ring / 3rd ch from hook then sl st to top of 1st htr/hdc to join, use tail yarn to tighten centre ring closed if necessary. Finish off with an invisible join and weave in ends (16 sts). same st as your beginning ch 3, \* ch 1, skip the next st, 1 tr/dc in the next st, ch 1, skip the next st, [2 tr/ Stitch round the entire ring in blanket stitch, covering the tail as you go. Bring the needle towards you through the ring and pass it away from you through the loop created. Make sure to cover the whole ring, moving the stitches along the ring so an invisible join and weave in ends (20 sts + (4x)ch there are no gaps. Invisible join
The last st of your work (where relevant) should be finished off using the invisible join method: After the last stitch is completed do not join; cut your yarn and pull the tail all the way through the stitch Then using a hook or a yarn needle thread insert under the loops of the stitch you wish to join to. Pull yarn through gently. Then, insert your hook or needle into the centre of the last stitch. Pull yarn through gently and weave in ends as usual.
