Cast-On and Ribbing
Using a long-tail cast-on, cast on 60 stitches on one circular needle. Slide 30 stitches to a second circular needle, and join to work in the round by slipping the first stitch on one needle to the other, and then switching the second stitch from that needle up and over the first stitch to the other needle. Foot
Bottom of foot: Knit all rows on Needle 1. Top of foot: Continue on in pattern on Needle 2 until approximately 2 inches from the end. Knit 15 stitches on Needle 1 and place marker for beginning of toe. Sample shows a total of $5\,\%$ repeats of the pattern from cuff to top of toe.
Decrease Row: On Needle 1, kto 3 stitches before end, k2tog, k1, on Needle 2, k1, ssk, knit to 3 stitches before end, k2 tog, k1, on Needle 1, k1, ssk, knit to marker. Row 1: Work Decrease Row. Row 2-4: Knit around. Row 5: Work Decrease Row. Row 6 -7: Knit around. Row 8-10: Repeat rows 5-7 once more. Row 11: Work Decrease row. Row 12: Knit around. Row 13-16: Repeat 11-12 twice more. Heel is worked on the 30 sts on N1. Row 1: With RS facing, knit one row until one stitch remains, turn work. Row 2: With Ws facing, yo, purl across until one stitch remains. Turn. Row 3. With RS facing, yarn over and knit up to the stitch/yarn over pair. Turn. Row 4. With WS facing, yarn over and purl to the first st/yo pair. Turn. ? Repeat Rows 3 and 4 until each needle has one stitch on the end, 10 st/yo pairs. This occurs on a k row. ? On the RS, Kto the first st/yo pair. K1 (stitch from the st/yo pair), K2Tog. Turn. On the Ws, yarn over and purl to the first st/yo pair. P1 (st from the st/yo pair), P2 through the back loops. Turn. On the RS, yarn over and knit to the first yo and K3Tog (knit 2 yarn overs and knit stitch in the following stitch together). Turn. On WS, yarn over and purl to the first yo. P3 together through the back loops. (purl 2 yarnovers and the following stitch together). Turn. Repeat steps 8 and 9 until the last stitch on each end is consumed. This is a wrong/purl side row. On the right/knit side, yarn over and knit up to the last remaining yarn over on the set of heel stitches. Slip this stitch over to the needle holding the instep stitches. SSK. This counts as the first stitch in round 16 of the pattern. Knit across the instep (needle 2) in pattern, up to the last stitch. Place the last yarn over remaining from the heel needle on the needle with the last remaining instep stitch and SSK the two stitches together. Knit to end of needle 1.
