Honey Quartet Fingerless Gloves Knitting Pattern with Variations for Wrist and Mid-Arm Length, Half and Full Finger Options

Honey Quartet

Designed for the Fingerless Gloves Fanatics Group on Ravelry this versatile glove has four possible variations. First, you can chose from a wrist or a mid-arm length glove and then decide if you want to finish it completely fingerless or with half fingers.

Materials

50g 4ply yarn 2.5mm needles (dpns or circular) Cable needle (optional) Waste yarn Stitch markers Darning needle

Tension

36st and 48 rounds = 4" in stocking stitch

Sizes available

Small (6-6.5"), Medium (7-7.5") and Large (8-8.5") hand circumference. This glove is fitted and has some negative ease (\~1") to allow the lace to open up when worn. Additional sizes can be achieved by changing needle sizes.

Cuff

Cast on 60 (68, 76)st. Join to work in the round, placing a marker at the beginning of the round if Required. Round 1: k2, p2 rep. to end. Round 2: k2, p2 rep. to end. Round 3: C1B, p2 rep. to end. Round 4: k2, p2 rep. to end. Repeat these 4 rounds 4 times more (20 rounds total) or until desired length.

Arm

For Wrist Length Glove:

Starting at Round 1 of pattern repeat (on next page), work the pattern repeat until glove measures 2.5" or desired length. At the same time, work decrease round every alternate round until 12 stitches have been decreased starting on round 1. Decrease Round: Work as set, knit to 2st before marker, ssk, sm, k1, k2tog, knit to end. You should have 48 (56, 64)st.

For Mid-arm Length Glove:

Starting at Round 1, work the pattern repeat for 17 rounds. Next round: Work as set but do not knit to end of round, knit 15(21, 27)st ssk, pm, k1, k2tog, knit to end. Work 5 rounds in pattern. Decrease Round: Work as set, knit to 2st before marker, ssk, sm, k1, k2tog, knit to end. Repeat last two steps, working a decrease round on every 6th round until 12 stitches have been decreased (48 rounds total from cuff). You should have 48 (56, 64)st.

Completely Fingerless Option

Continue to work in pattern until piece measures \~1” from thumb gap or desired length,finishing on row 6 or 12 of pattern repeat.

Cuff

Round 1: k2, p2 rep. to end. Round 2: k2, p2 rep. to end. Round 3: C1B, p2 rep. to end. Round 4: k2, p2 rep. to end. If you are changing colour for the cuffs, knit all the purl stitches for the first round to avoid bumps of the previous colour showing up at the join. If you finished on round 6 of pattern repeat you will need to start the cuff from round 3. You may wish to only cable the cables in the pattern repeat for this round. Repeat last 4 rounds once more or until cuff is desired length. Cast off. (Sewn cast off is recommended).

Half Finger Option

Knit in pattern until you reach the gap for the thumb. Place stitch marker. Cast on 4 stitches using the backward thumb method. Knit in pattern until end. Next round: Work in pattern. Next round: Work in pattern until stitch marker, remove stitch marker, ssk, k2tog, work in pattern until end. Continue to work in pattern until piece measures \~1" from thumb gap or desired length, finishing on row 6 or 12 of pattern repeat. You should have 48(56, 64)st.

Little Finger

Place the middle 12(14,16) stitches on needles, 6(7,8)st from the front of the work and 6(7,8)st from the back. Place remaining stitches on waste yarn. Join yarn at front of work, knit across stitches and cast on 4 stitches using backwards loops method. Join to knit in the round and work 1x1 ribbing until finger measures 1" or desired length. Cast off.

Ring Finger

Place 11(13,15) stitches on needles, 5(6,7)st from front of work and 6(7,8)st from back of work. Join yarn at front of work, knit 5(6,7)st and then pick up 4 stitches from the base of the little finger, knit 6(7,8)st and cast on 3 stitches using backwards loops method. Join to knit in the round and work 1x1 ribbing until finger measures 1" or desired length. Cast off.

Middle Finger

Place 11(13,15) stitches on needles, 6(7,8)st from front of work and 5(6,7)st from back of work. Join yarn at front of work, knit 6(7,8)st and then pick up 3 stitches from the base of the ring finger, knit 5(6,7)st and cast on 4 stitches using backwards loop method. Join to knit in the round and work 1x1 ribbing until finger measures 1" or desired length. Cast off.

Index Finger

Place remaining 14(16,18) stitches on needles. Join yarn, knit across stitches and pick up 4 stitches from base of middle finger. Join to knit in the round and work 1x1 ribbing until finger measures 1" or desired length. Cast off.

Thumb (same for all variations)

Place stitches from waste yarn back onto needles. Rejoin yarn and knit across all 22 stitches, picking up and knitting 6 stitches across the gap. Next round: k22, ssk, k2, k2tog. Next round: knit. Next round: k22, ssk, k2tog.

Cuff

Round 1: k2, p2 rep. to end. Round 2: k2, p2 rep. to end. Round 3: C1B, p2 rep. to end. Round 4: k2, p2 rep. to end. Repeat last 4 rounds once more or until thumb is desired length. Cast off (sewn cast off is recommended).

Finishing Instructions

Sew in all yarn ends and block. Admire!
