Boris the Spider
by Anna-Lena Thiel This was made for a friend of mine who unfortunately spends a lot of her time in hospital. She needed something to cheer her up and a silly hat just seemed to fit the bill. In case you plan on making this hat, please share the pictures with us so she might have something more to laugh... You know it is said that laughter is the best medicine after all..

PATTERN
CO 8o st using cable cast on, knit one row. Divide st equally on both sides of your cable to continue with the Magic Loop technique and and join in round, being careful not to twist. Place marker at beg of rnd. Continue with k1 p1 for 8 rnds. Continue in stockinette stitch for 13 cm (or whatever length you prefer, I did not go for a slouchy look with this one). Start crown shaping: 1.Rd: \*k9 k2tog\* repeat to end 2.Rd: k 3.Rd: k 4.Rd: \*k8 k2tog\* repeat to end 5.Rd: k 6.Rd: k7 k2tog 7.Rd: k6 k2tog 8.Rd: k5 k2tog 9.Rd: K4 k2tog 10.Rd: k3 k2tog 11.Rd: k2 k2tog 12.Rd: k1 k2tog 13.Rd: k2tog 14.Rd: break yarn and thread on needle;

Crochet two white circles for eyes. Crochet two smaller circles with black centres and purple/green edges for pupils. Sew smaler circles on the white circles - make it topsy-turvy for that special crazy look. Embroider eye lid(s) if wanted. Make an eight red i-cords for legs (about 15cm each), fold in half and sew into little bumps for >knees<. Attach them on opposite sides of the hat, to keep them from tangling up too much you should displace them by about 2cm horizontilly and vertically. Attach the eyes centred between the eyes. Wear and have fun!

Additional notes:
Knitty patterns use CYC standard sizing. Full details can be found here: http: //www.yarnstandards.com/sizing.html US spellings are our standard. Watch for "ou"'s where they don't belong. · Abbreviations that begin a sentence should be capitalized ·Use "inches", not inch symbol ["] universally ·Use "work" [not "knit"] when describing following a specific pattern for a specific measurement. ·For multiple instructions, indicate as follows: 12[13, 14, 15] note: no space between first number and square bracket · Do not use fractions - they get lost in transit to our technical editor. Please use decimals or write the fractions in words (i.e. one-quarter or .25)
