Paris, like many other cities in recent times, has been the victim of terror. The citizens of Paris have shown bravery and unity in the face of ragedy. The Grande Arche, the Eiffel Tower, the Parthenon, Notre Dame, Sacre Couer, and the Arc de Triomphe circle the cap. Make one or many, the pattern is free with the request for a donation to the charity of your choice. Choose between a close fitting Skull Cap or a taller Ski Hat, the difference is in the decrease. Just be sure to work the decrease section for the height hat desired. Yarn weight and needles determine the final size of this cap.

Notes:

Sport Weight Yarn (Child size) & a US Size 3 needle will make a smaller hat - Worsted Weight Yarn (Large Adult Size) and a US Size 7 needle will make a larger hat - see gauges in Gauge Section. Use M1 for increases unless otherwise noted. There are 2 charts that make up the complete design, the Paris Fort Chart and Paris Skyline Chart. Row 1 of Paris Fort Chart is immediately followed by Row 1 of Paris Skyline Chart. Print off both charts if desired and tape them together side-by-side, or place a marker after stitch 54 of Paris Fort Chart to delineate where this chart ends and the Paris Skyline Chart begins. The marker will make it easier to determine where a mistake lies if needed.

Finishing:

Cut yarn leaving 10 inch tail. Thread tail onto darning needle and run needle thru remaining sts. Anchor tail with a stitch. Block on ironing board using wet cotton dishtowel to cover fabric and steam with a hot iron. DO NOT PRESS IRON DOWN ONTO FABRIC, just touch down lightly on wet towel to create steam. Do not steam the corrugated rib brim!! See video link below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PppCWYnS214 Blocking a Knit Hat and Adding Ties Weave ends into back of work with darning needle, leaving the tail at tip unwoven if adding a Tassel, Fairy Pull, Twirlies or a Pom Pom.

Tassel:

Any simple tassel will do. The following video will show how to make a one piece professional tassel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOWpopDLfdo Make aBetterTassel

Fairy Pull:

Using crochet hook use tail at top of hat and, beginning close to top of hat, chain 8 to 10 stitches then join chain back to top of hat. This creates the loop or pull. Secure end to top of hat with darning needle and weave end into back of fabric.

Pom Pom:

Wrap CC1 around a 4” piece of cardboard 150 times, remove from cardboard and tie off in the center before cutting loops. Trim and secure to top of hat. The following link will demonstrate making a Pom Pom. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hE40R1Eq9EA Make a Better Pom Pom

Twilioae

Start with piece of yarn that is four times longer than the desired length of the finished cord. (2 feet is a good amount for a top Twirlie) Fold in half. Grasp one end in each hand and begin twisting. Continue until, when relaxed (DON'T LET GO OF EITHER END), the cord begins to double back on itself. When ready, grab the center of the length (with your mouth if your are alone) and fold in half so the 2 ends are together (DON'T LET GO OF THE ENDS YET!) Let go of the center and the Twirlie forms. Knot the 2 ends together (don't let ends go until knotted) Run fingers along the length of the Twirlie to straighten out any kinks. Voila! Sew to the top of the hat with tail left at top of hat. Make another in another color if desired. Secure end to top of hat with darning needle and weave end into back of fabric. For a warmer hat, consider lining the cap with a pre-made fleece cap: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkwAuDbQGoo Lining a Knit Hat with a Fleece Cap Copyright 2015, Lisa McFetridge Lisagmc@ aol.com Lisagmc on Ravelry www.flickr.com/photos/lisamcfetridge on FLiCKR
