Aran weight yarn (10 ply/8wpi) Legwarmers shown use Hayfield Bonus Aran, 80% acrylic, 20% wool Main Colour: Cream tweed, 255 metres (279 yards) Contrast Colour: Dark grey, 50 metres (55 yards) Needles: 4.5 mm (Us 7), in the round version uses a 40 cm (16 inch) circular needle (or long length if using magic loop method). Gauge: 18 sts and 21 rows to 10cm x 10cm (4 inches) in stocking stitch (stockinette) Legwarmers for reindeer? Or reindeer to keep your legs warm?! Either way, keep them snug with this quartet of prancing deer, cuddled around the calves. This pattern is written with instructions both for working flat, and for working in the round so you can work from the option you prefer. The colourwork section is chart only.

On 4.5 mm needles, cast on 60 stitches in main colour Ribbing Rows 1-10: [kl,p1] to end Stockinettesection Rows 11, 13, 15, 17, 19: knit to end Rows 12, 14, 16, 18, 20: purl to end Seedstitchborder Rows 21, 23, 25: [kl, p1] to end Rows: 22, 24: [p1, k1] to end Stockinettesection Rows 26, 28: purl to end Rows 27, 29: knit to end Rows 30-49: Starting with a purl row and continuing in stockinette follow the chart for the reindeer pattern. Join in the contrast colour for the motif. The chart is read from bottom to top, with 4 repeats of each line of the chart across the work (to give 4 reindeer around the legwarmer). For working flat: Knit the odd numbered rows (following the chart in the direction in which you are knitting). Purl the even numbered rows (following the chart in the oppositedirection) For working in the round: Knit all rounds, reading the chart in the direction in which you are knitting.

Instructions for knitting in the round (make two)

40 cm circular needle: 4.5 mm. Cast on 60 stitches in main colour. Join round, placing a marker to mark the start of the next round.
