Beatrix Flower Headband By Kimberly Golynskiy

YARN: Worsted weight yarn in 2 colors; MC for the headband/center of the flower (30-80 yds) and CC for the flower (\~2Oyds) - pictured Naturally Caron Country in Peacock (blue) and Deep Purple EQUIPMENT: US 7 (4.5mm) 16 in (40cm) circular needles, and US 9 (5.5mm) any size needles, tapestryneedle GAUGE: 5 sts x 7 rows in 1" in 1x1 rib SIZE: 0-12 months, (12 months-2 years, 3-5 years, 6 years-small adult, large adult) KEY: CC - contrasting color k2tog - knit the next two stitches together (1 st decrease) MC - main color p2tog - purl the next two sts together (1 st decrease) PM - place marker ssk - (slip, slip, knit); slip the next two stitches as if to knit to the right-hand needle, one by one, put the left hand needle through the front of these two stitches and knit together (1 st decrease) yo - yarn over; bring the yarn forward as if to purl before making the next knit stitch (1 st increase)
PATTERN:
Headband - Using long-tail method (or your favorite stretchy cast-on) on US 7 (4.5 mm) circular needles in MC, cast on 64 (70, 76, 82, 88 sts) ALL SIZES: PM, join in the round, ROWS 1-10. (k1, p1) repeat to end Use your favorite stretchy bind off or switch to US 9 (5.5mm) needle and bind off loosely in (k1, p1) all. Leave a tail at least 12 inches long to use to secure the flower to the headband and provide color for the center of the flower. Flower- ALL SIZES - In CC, using your favorite stretchy method, cast on 46 sts on US 9 (5.5mm) needles, worked flat 1. purl all 2. k1, (yo, k2, ssk, k2tog, k2, yo, k1) repeat to end {46 sts} 3. purl all 4. (k2, ssk, k2tog, k2, yo, k1, yo) repeat to last st, k1 {46 sts} 5. purl all 6. (k2, ssk, k2tog, k2, yo, k1, yo) repeat to last st, k1 {46 sts} 7. purl all 8. (k1, ssk, k2tog) repeat to last st, k1 {28 sts} 9. p2tog all {14 sts} 10. k2tog all {7 sts} Cut a tail of at least 12 inches. Using a tapestry needle, thread the yarn through remaining sts and pull to close. Then use the tail to whipstitch the open sides of the flower together.
FINISHING:
Using a tapestry needle and the remaining CC yarn tail, attach the flower to the headband at the area with the cast on/bind off tails. Use the MC yarn tails from the headband to create a decorative star pattern in the center of the flower (see photo for detail). Weave in all ends (they're easy to hide under the flower) and enjoy!
