Agrarian Artisan's Easy Peasy Fingerless Mitts Knitting Pattern for Warm and Cozy Hands

Agrarian Artisan designs Easy Peay Fingerless Mitts

Please read this pattern through to the end before starting.

Pattern illustration

Easy Peasy are very simple fingerless mitts which really are extremely easy to make. They are knitted straight and seamed leaving a slit for the thumb. Both left and right mitts are exactly the same. The finished size is approx. 712" around and 7" long. To increase or decrease this size add or remove stitches and rows to suit.

Materials

1 skein of The Natural Dye Studio's Godiva DK yarn (100% merino) - 100g/220m (pattern as written uses approx. half a skein) Pair of 4.5mm needles Tapestry needle

Tension

Approx. 21 sts wide and 29 rows to 4" over stocking stitch.

Abbreviations

st = stitch p = purl k = knit

Instructions for each mitt

Cast on 39 sts using 2 needle or rib method (for ease leave at least 8 inches of yarn for seaming) Row 1 k1, (p1, k1) 19 times Row 2 p1, (k1, p1) 19 times Repeat rows 1 and 2 four more times (this gives 10 rows of rib - increase or reduce if you like) Row 11 k Row 12 p Repeat rows 11&12 sixteen times (34 rows of stocking stitch in total) Row 35 as row 1 Row 36 as row 2 Repeats rows 35 and 36 once (giving 4 rows of rib) Cast off ribwise

To make up

Join seam from finger end down 2 inches, leave 2 inch gap, and place a mark. Join seam from wrist up to this mark. Note: these lengths should be adjusted to suit the hands you are making them for! Block as required for the yarn.

Alternative yarns

These mitts can be made with any DK yarn, but I have found Godiva gives a lovely thick and warm fabric which is ideal for mitts.
