Trickle Scarf
By Amanda Carrigan

Knitted lengthwise in garter stitch with short-row accents, this scarf is easy enough to knit while watching TV or chatting with friends. At the same time, by varying the dimensions and yarn used, it can become either a light accessory for spring, or a cozy scarf for fall and winter. Dimensions: 5" wide and 72" long. ;ts/4" (final). Note, however, that there will be stretching under the weight of the scar due to stitch used and loose fabric. My initial gauge was closer to 22 sts/4" Needles: 3.25mm circulars, 24"/60cm long or longer. Yarn: 50g laceweight yarn, approx 400-450yds in main color (MC) and 50yds in contrast color (CC). Sample knit in Misti Alpaca laceweight and KnitPicks Alpaca Cloud. For a more solid fabric, fingering or sport-weight yarn may be substituted. Notes on varying stripe dimensions: A scale is very useful here. The sample was knit with 4 stripes main color and 3 contrast color, so I made sure I was using under a quarter of the total weight MC and under a third of the weight of CC per stripe. If you are altering size of scarf or number/width of stripes, check you are within the appropriate proportion of yarn per stripe. Or plan to make some stripes different colors.
