13 Hats to Knit for Baby

Introduction
Hats are the greatest things to knit for babies. You can be flashy, traditional, funky or mellow in your choices of design and color. They're quick to knit up, so even if you have a last-minute baby shower to attend, you won't go empty handed. And your gift will be the hit of the shower, guaranteed. A Baker's Dozen is a compilation of hat patterns from my website, www.kidknits.biz where I also offer patterns for sweaters, blankets and other baby items as well as kits. All the patterns call for worsted weight yarn to knit up on size 7 circular needles at 4 stitches to the inch. While the specific patterns call for cotton yarn, you can substitute yarn as long as you get the same gauge. They're worked in the round so there are no seams to sew, only ends to work in, and, if you've made one of the hats with add-on decorations, a little time to make these up. If you find you need help with technique, visit www.knittinghelp.com for terrific instructional videos that will take you from basics to more advanced. Have fun, be inspired, and happy knitting

Fruit Hat
This is my version of the popular fruit hat. The leaves are knitted separately and sewn on. At first, I called this my Apple Hat, but found that people who saw it at craft shows called it a tomato, a strawberry, whatever red fruit or veggie came to mind. It also looks great in yellow, orange, or purple.

Some of my biggest craft shows were in the Fall, and what better gift to give an October or November baby than his or her own very own pumpkin hat? It's also a terific first Halloween costume, and even though it's seasonal, it is still very cute all year.
