Notes
This hat is constructed in the round, beginning with the brim and ending with the crown. This pattern includes written instructions Only. Adjust needle size as necessary to match gauge. If you are new to brioche, I have created a collection of How To Brioche videos on YouTube: http://tinyurl.com/jpenkxo
Cast On & Setup
Using the smaller needle and the German Twisted Cast-On method, cast on 90 sts. Place a marker and join for working in the round. Tutorial:http://tinyurl.com/j64yl3d Setup Rnd a: \*K1, sllyo; rep from \* to end. Setup Rnd b: \*Sllyo, brp 1; rep from \* to end.
Brim
Rnd 1a: \*Brk 1, sllyo; rep from \* to end. Rnd 1b: \*S1lyo, brp 1; rep from \* to end. Rep [Rnds 1a and 1b] 10 more times, or until the Brim measures 2" from the cast-on edge, ending with Rnd 1b.
Hat Body
Change to the larger needle. Continue to work in established pattern, repeating Rnds 1a and 1b, until the Hat measures 8 inches from the cast-on edge, ending with Rnd 1b.
Crown Shaping
When the circumference of the Crown becomes too small for the circular needle, switch to DPNs. Rnd 1a (dec rnd): \*(Brk 1, sllyo) 3 times, br4st dec, sllyo, (brk 1, sllyo) 3 times; rep from \* to end [20 sts dec; 70 sts rem]. Rnd 1b: \*Sllyo, brp 1; rep from \* to end. Rnd 2a: \*Brk 1, sllyo; rep from \* to end. Rnd 2b: \*S1lyo, brp 1; rep from \* to end. Rnd 3a (dec rnd): \*(Brk 1, sllyo) 2 times, br4st dec, sllyo, (brk 1, sl1yo) 2 times; rep from \* to end [20 sts dec; 50 sts rem]. Rnd 3b: \*S1lyo, brp 1; rep from \* to end. Rnd 4a: \*Brk 1, sllyo; rep from \* to end. Rnd 4b: \*S1lyo, brp 1; rep from \* to end. Rnd 5a (dec rnd): \*Brk 1, sllyo, br4st dec, sllyo, brk1, sllyo; rep from \* to end [20 sts dec; 30 sts rem]. Rnd 5b: \*S1lyo, brp 1; rep from \* to end. Rnd 6a: \*Brk 1, sllyo; rep from \* to end. Rnd 6b: \*S1lyo, brp 1; rep from \* to end. Rnd 7 (dec rnd): \*Br4st dec, sllyo; rep from \* to end [20 sts dec; 10 sts rem].
Finishing
On this last round, all sts will be converted to standard sts and decreased at the same time. Note: Brk2tog is not a standard brioche abbreviation. Next Rnd: Brk2tog; rep from \* to end [5 sts dec; 5 sts rem]. Break yarn leaving a 10-inch tail. Using the tapestry needle, weave the tail through the live sts and cinch closed.
Finishing
Weave in ends. Wet block gently. Rock your new hat!
