CvenstaR Gloves
by audReym chere [she] ua(ked bepore his eyes in Rivendell, clad in d mancle or silver and blue, pair as che Tuuilight in Clven-home Zhe Cale or Aragorn C ARuen, JRR Colkein I needed a project to knit during our Easter Weekend Lord of the Rings Extended Editions Watch-a-Thon and Chrissie needed something to keep her hands warm while weaving in her workshop. This beautiful silvery-blue yarn made me think of starlight and of the Evenstar of herpeople soI made these fingerless gloves, inspired by Arwen as I imagine her from the books.
Size
to fit my more ‘traditionally built' arms (my wrist is 21 cm around). For smaller or larger gloves go up or down 1 or 2 needles sizes. Length to wrist is approx 12 cm.
Materials
200m of double knit yarn (shown in Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK shade 008) 3 set of 3.25 mm dpns 3oddments of scrap yarn
Tension
22 stitches & 34 rows to 10 cm in stocking stitch
Abbreviations
K = knit, P = purl, sts = stitches MC Main Cable C4B (Cable 4 Back) = slip next 2 sts onto a cable needle and hold at back of work, knit next 2 stitches from left-hand needle, then knit sts from cable needle C4F (Cable 4 Front) = slip next 2 sts onto a cable needle and hold at front of work, knit next 2 stitches from left-hand needle, then knit sts from cable needle T3B (Twist 3 Back) = slip next st onto a cable needle and hold at back of work, knit next 2 sts from lefthand needle, then purl st from cable needle T3F (Twist 3 Front) = slip next 2 sts onto a cable needle and hold at front of work, purl next st from left-hand needle, then knit sts from cable needle

INSCRUCTIONS: Right Clove
Cast on 48 stitches loosely, distribute evenly on three 3.25 mm dpns, join and work 6 rounds P4 K4 rib Start cable pattern: arrange stitches so that you have 20 stitches on needle 1 (beginning with a P4), and the remaining 28 stitches distributed over needles 2 & 3 Round 1: needle 1: P2, work first round of main cable over next 16 st, P2; needles 2 & 3: [C4B, P4] 3 times, C4B Round 2:needle 1:P2,work next round of main cable over next 16 st, P2; needles 2 & 3: [K4, P4] 3 times, K4 Rounds 3, 4, 5, 6: as round 2 Repeat these 6 rows (ie cabling the K4s on needles 2 & 3 on the 1st, 7th, 13th and 19th rounds of the main cable pattern) five more times (ending with row 12 of main cable; total main cable rows worked at this point = 24 + 12).

Thumb opening
Next round: needle 1: work in established pattern (MC row 8); needles 2 & 3: k2, then use scrap yarn to work the next 8 stitches in established pattern and then slip these 8 stitches back onto the left needle and work them again in established pattern using the working yarn; continue in established pattern to end of round. Work in established pattern for 16 more rows, ending with MC row 24. Next round: needle 1: work in established pattern (MC row 1);needles 2 & 3[C4B P4] Next round: [P4 K4] repeat to end of round Work a further 5 rows in P4 K4 rib. Cast off loosely in rib.
Make thumb
Remove waste yarn. Starting at the palm side, pick up and knit 7 stitches across the top, then pick up and knit 1 stitch at the ^corner' (twist this to avoid a hole forming), then pick up and knit 8 stitches across the bottom, then pick up and knit 1 stitch at the corner (twist this to avoid a hole forming) - 17 stitches. Knit 10 rounds, cast off loosely.
Lert Glove
Work as for right glove to start of palm except work the cables onneedles 2&3 asC4Finsteadof C4B.
