Christmas Poinsettia Flower
Crochet Pattern
Materials:
O Scrap yarn in red and green O Recommended crochet hook size for yarn O 1 Tapestry needle O Glass beads and thread (optional)
Notes:
Skills needed to complete this pattern include: magic ring, working in the round, chain, slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, and double crochet. This poinsettia is wonderfully festive! It would make a beautiful hair barrette, Christmas ornament, or sweater embellishment. It uses very little yarn and can be made with scraps from previous projects.
Red Petals:
With red yarn: Sc 1 in magic ring, then 9 sc in magic ring. Tighten ring and sl st in first sc to complete round. - 10 sc Rnd 1: Sc in flo, ch 5, sc in spine of second ch from hook, sc in spine of next 3 ch, sc in same flo st as ch 5, sc in flo of next st. Repeat from \* around. Sl st in first st to complete round. - 5 sc and 5 petal stems Rnd 2: \*Working up petal stem: Hdc in first st of ch 5, dc in next st, dc in next st, (hdc, sl st) in next st, ch 3. Round top and work down opposite side: (Sl st, hdc) in first st, dc in next st, dc in next st, hdc in next st, sl st in next 3 sts. Repeat from \* for each petal stem. - 5 petals
Green Foliage:
With green yarn: Turn Ws facing, pull up a loop in blo of beginning rnd, sc 10 evenly around in blos, sl st to complete round. Hints: Hide your red and green tails while doing previous foundation round of sc. As you work the leaf stems make sure they come up offset to show between each petal. Rnd 1: Turn RS facing. Sc in previous st, ch 5, sc in spine of second ch from hook, sc in spine of next 3 ch, sc in same st as ch 5, sc in next st. Repeat from \* around. Sl st in first st to complete round. - 5 sc and 5 leaf stems Rnd 2: \*Working up leaf stem: Hdc in first st of ch 5, dc in next st, dc in next st, (hdc, sl st) in next st, ch 3. Round top and work down opposite side: (Sl st, hdc) in first st, dc in next st, dc in next st, hdc in next st, sl st in next 3 sts. Repeat from \* for each leaf stem. -5 leaves Finishing: Fasten off and hide loose ends. Embellish with glass beads in the center of the flower.
