Thiz hat iz knit in the round using a simple ribbing and an easy to memorize braid pattern. The large foldable brim makes it convertible in terms of style: from toque to slouch injust a second!
Materials
Yarn // approx. 230yds/210m of aran weight yarn. Sample is shown in Lana Grossa Nuvola (2 skeins, color 18). Needles // US 6/4.0mm & US 8/5.0mmcircular needle (16"/40cm), set of US 8/5.0mm double pointed needles, or size to obtain gauge Additional // stitch marker, cable needle, pompom maker

Gauge // 4sts x 6.5rows = 1" in Stockinette Stitch on larger needles Finished size // to fit an average adult head (measures unstretched approx. 20"/50cm in circumference, length is variable due to the folded brim (minimum is 8.5"/21.5cm without pompom))

Instructions
BRIM
With smaller needles CO 90sts. Join to work in the round being careful not to twist. Place marker to indicate beginning of the round. Establish 1x1-ribbing: \*k1, p1\* around. Work in ribbing for 3.25"/8.5cm. Work increase round as follows: M1R, kto end of round (91sts)
BODY OF THE HAT
Switch to larger needles and start pattern (pattern is worked over a multiple of 13sts). You can follow the written instructions or use the chart. Round 1: \*k3, p3, k3, p4\* (7 times) Round 2: same as round 1 Round 3: \*k3, C6Fp-k, p4\* (7 times) Round 4: same as round 1 Round 5: same as round 1 Round 6: same as round 1 Round 7: \*C6Bk-p, k3, p4\* (7 times) Round 8: same as round 1 Work rounds 1-8 a total of 7 times. End on round 8.
CROWN
(Switch to double pointed needles when necessary.) Round 1: \*k3tog, p3, k3tog, p4\* (63sts) Round 2: \*k1, p3tog, k1, p2tog, p2tog\* (35sts) Break yarn and thread tail through the remaining stitches. Tighten and secure.
FINISHING
Make a pompom (approx. 2.5"/6cm in diameter) and attach on top of the hat. Weave in all ends.
