Pattern Notes
There are three sections to this scarf, the Watson Chart, the middle which involves deduction if you so choose and the Sherlock chart. A written version of both charts will be made available by the end of the year, but for now the pattern is as follows. Note: By following the pattern as written the bottom of the scarf will roll until blocked. It is perfectly acceptable to knit a few rows of garter stitch to help prevent this.

Cast on 45 stitches Set Up: Row 1: Knit Row 2: Purl Row 3: K1,C6F, K31, C6F, K1 Row 4: Purl hese four rows once more. Note: More repeats can be added to the beginning. WatsonChart: Follow Watson Chart on page 3. If you want to flip this chart then you would begin with Row 67(rs) of the Watson Chart. Instructions on Reading a Chart: The chart only shows odd numbered (rs) rows. Read the charts from right to left and purl even numbered rows. Once the Watson Chart has been completed continue following the cable pattern established in the set up section until the piece measures 52 inches. There were 85 repeats of the cable pattern in the sample. This is where the deduction comes in. If you do not desire counting rows for this part and just cabling when you feel like then do so. If you are afraid of running out of yarn then you will want to weigh your Watson section when finished to know the weight of yarn you will need for the Sherlock section. Sherlock fans may recall that he shot a few holes (8 to be exact) in the walls of Mrs. Hudson's apartment. If you would like to add a few bullet holes to your scarf, then add the following stitch pattern to two of your rows. These stitches may be added at any point in the row. you reach the double yarn over, purl in the first YO and knit in the second Y( Wendy from Knitters Brewing Company has a video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zly1lencXhk SherlockChart: When the middle section of the scarf has been completed begin the Sherlock Chart on page 4 of pattern. Follow Sherlock Chart starting at row 67(rs) and working down to row 1. If you want to flip this chart then you would begin with Row 1(rs) of the Sherlock Chart. Optional Smiley Chart: I have included a Smiley Chart minus the fleur de lis on page 5 if you would like to include a smiley face on your scarf. Remember to knit starting at row 29(rs) if you want to put it at the end of your scarf, that way it is right sideup. Finish: End the scarf with repeating the Set Up rows 2 times. If you did a few rows of garter stitch at the beginning of your scarf you will want to do the same number of garter stitch rows at the end. Bind off using your favorite bind off method. Weave in ends and block. When wearing this scarf you can either display the Watson or the Sherlock side. Or a little bit of both.
