Copyright Helen Shrimpton 2015 12 afghan square Using Aran weight and 5.5mm hook Approx 100 meters of yarn needed. I designed this square to be used as a 6 or 12 inch square using eight colours. You may of course use as many colours as you wish. If using a lighter weight yarn the square will be smaller (double knit comes out at approx 11 inches with a 4.5mm hook). Use this square in any way you like for your own use but please do not reproduce or distribute this pattern without my consent.

Special stitches Popcorn (pc)- for this pattern the popcorn stitch is 5 tr into the same stitch, take hook from last loop, place in 1st loop and then last and slip together, fasten with a ch1. BLO - stitches are made into the back loop only of a stitch. BP - stitch is made around the back post of the stitch and not through the loops. I also refer to magic circle, standing stitches and invisible joins, if these are new to you there are excellent videos on YouTube to teach you how. Round 1. With colour 1. Make a magic circle and chain 4 (this counts as 1dc plus 1ch) dc ch1, 11 more times. Fasten with invisible stitch and draw the loop together but not too tightly or it will buckle in the next round.
