Steppe Stole
Designed by Rachael Tatman' I designed this stole to use some lace weight cashmere my parents brought back from Mongolia. I wanted a design that was simple to knit but had a bold visual impact. This stole incorporates a lot of things I really enjoy in knitting: strong verticals, simple interlace, a short pattern repeat and a wide border. Oh, and did I mention that this pattern is extremely easy? It uses only five stitches. A one repeat scarf would be a great beginner lace project! The sample shown here was knit on US5 needles using around five ounces of doubled lace-weight. Your mileage may differ. Instructions: Cast on a multiple of 16 + 26 stitches. Knit for ten rows. Then knit the first four stitches and continue with the rest of the chart. Only odd rows are charted; all even rows are purled. Always knit the first four and last four stitches. When the stole is as long as you want it, knit ten more rows and cast off loosely. Block that baby and call it aday.
