Waterlily: triangular and rhombic shawl
Intｒｏduｃｔｉｏn This adaptation of one of the most famous and beautiful motifs for Haapsalu shawls "Waterlily'. The pattern is changed that it is possible to create triangular or rhombic shawls. Description and tips Chart 1 includes only odd number rows. All even row stitches are knitted purlwise. Edge and middle part of motif are separated by empty space. There are 3 possibilities: to knit triangular shawl by increasing stitches, to knit triangular shawl by decreasing stitches, to knit rhombic shawl by increasing and then decreasing stitches. 1. To knit triangular shawl by increasing stitches cast on 3 stitches. Knit rows 1 - 28 from Chart 1. Then knit repeating rows 29 - 56 from Chart 1 until shawl will have desired size. Knit few rows knitwise. 2. To knit triangular shawl by decreasing stitches cast on 45 sts (edges of the motif) + 16 sts · X times (repeated middle part of the motif). Knit few rows knitwise then start to knit repeating rows 57 - 84 from Chart 1 until you will have 27 stitches then knit according to rows 85 - 109. 3. To knit rhombic shawl cast on 3 stitches. Knit rows 1 - 28 from Chart 1. Then knit repeating rows 29 - 56 from Chart 1 until shawl will have half of desired size. Start to knit repeating rows 57 - 84 from Chart 1 until you will have 27 stitches then knit according to rows 85 - 109.
