A simple lace scarf designed especially for the Prema Arts annual KnitPic - a fun day of creative, crafty goodness complete with a sumptuous one-day, pop-up shop by Bluestocking Wool & Gifts.

Materials:
The picture shown above shows a scarf made with one 100g skein of Sirdar cotton DK on 5mm needles. Your project can use any weight yarn of your choice. For optimum results use needles one size larger than recommended.
Abbreviations:
k knit p purl yo yarn over k2tog knit two stitches together p2tog purl two stitches together p2togb purl two stitches together through the back loop ssk slip the first stitch as if to knit, slip the second stitch as if to knit, then slide the left-hand needle into the front part of both stitches and knit them together

Cast on 32 stitches and knit two rows then begin the 18 row lace pattern as follows: 1. k1, (yo, k8, k2tog) to last stitch, K1 2. p1, (p2tog, p7, yo, p1) to last stitch, p1 3. k1, (k2, yo, k6, k2tog) to last stitch, k1 4. p1, (p2tog, p5, yo, p3) to last stitch, p1 5. k1, (k4, yo, k4, k2tog) to last stitch, k1 6. p1, (p2tog, p3, yo, p5) to last stitch, p1 7. k1, (k6, yo, k2, k2tog) to last stitch, k1 8. p1, (p2tog, p1, yo, p7) to last stitch, p1 9. k1, (k8, yo, k2tog) to last stitch, k1 10. p1, (yo, p8, p2togb) to last stitch, p1 11. k1, (ssk, k7, yo, k1) to last stitch, k1 12. p1, (p2, yo, p6, p2togb), to last stitch, p1 13. k1, (ssk, k5, yo, k3), to last stitch, k1 14. p1, (p4, yo, p4, p2togb) to last stitch, p1 15. k1, (ssk, k3, yo, k5) to last stitch, k1 16. p1, (p6, yo, p2, p2togb) to last stitch, p1 17. k1, (ssk, k1, yo, k7) to last stitch, k1 18. p1, (p8, yo, p2togb) to last stitch, p1 These 18 rows form the pattern for the scarf.
