Materials

Yarn Scarf: Super bulky weight in one or two colors for a total of 220 yards Beanie: Super bulky weight for a total of 160 yards Crochet Hooks: N Miscellaneous: yarn needle, large button (optional) Sizes: Child, Teen/Adult, Long Measurements Child 39 x 5", Teen/Adult 52 x 5", Long 64 x 5" Note: Pattern is written for child size, with teen/adult and extra-long written in (teen/adult, extra-long).

Directions for Scarf

1. With N hook and super bulky weight yarn, ch 102 (138, 160), sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. 101sts (137, 159sts) 2. Ch 1, turn, sc in each st to end of row. 3. If making a striped scarf, change color now. Ch 1, turn, sc 25, \*ch 1, sk 1, hdc in BLO of next st\*, repeat until 2 sts remain, ch 1, sk 1, hdc in last st. 4. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st, sc in FLO of next st, \*fphdc, sc in FLO of next st\*, repeat until 25sts remain, SC 25. 5. If making a striped scarf, change color now. Ch 1, turn, sc 25, \*ch 1, sk 1, hdc in BLO of next st\*, repeat until 2 sts remain, sk 1, hdc in last st. 6. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st, sc in FLO of next st, \*fphdc, sc in FLO of next st\*, repeat until 25sts remain, SC25. 7. If making a striped scarf, change color now. Ch 1, turn, sc 25, \*ch 1, sk 1, hdc in BLO of next st\*, repeat until 2 sts remain, sk 1, hdc in last st. 8. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st, sc in FLO of next st, \*fphdc, sc in FLO of next st\*, repeat until 25sts remain, sc 25. For child size, skip to step #11. The “extra-long" version is meant to wrap around the neck and back through the loop. You may wish to Add rows 9-10 for an extra wide scarf. If not, skip to #11. 9. If making a striped scarf, change color now. Ch 1, turn, sc 25, \*ch 1, sk 1, hdc in BLO of next st\*. repeat until 2 sts remain, sk 1, hdc in last st. 10. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st, sc in FLO of next st, \*fphdc, sc in FLO of next st\*, repeat until 25sts remain, sc 25. For wider scarves, repeat steps 9 and 10 once more. 11. Ch 1, turn, sc 25, hdc in BLO to end of round. 12. Ch 1, turn, sc in each st to end of row. Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing loop in place. Finish off and weave in ends. To create loop: Fold sc end of scarf back so wrong sides are together. Line up the edge of scarf with section of scarf where it switches from sc stitches. With yarn needle and yarn tail, sew layers together. Button (optional): with sewing needle and thread, sew button to loop if desired.

Directions for Hat

Child Size (5-8 years)

1. Leave a long tail in the beginning to use later. With N hook and super bulky weight yarn, chain 30, sl st in last ch from hook to join in a loop. Make sure chain is not twisted. Note: This could be started with a foundation chain instead if prefered. 2. Sc, hdc 3, 2hdc in next st, \*hdc 4, 2hdc in next st\*, repeat to end of round. Do not join. Place marker for working in continuous rounds. (36sts) 3. Hdc in each st to end of round. 4. \*fphdc, sc in FLO of next st\*, repeat to end of round. Check stitch count. There should still be 36sts. 5. Repeat previous round until hat measures 7" from starting edge, or longer if desired. 6-7. \*sc in FLO, sc in BLO\*, repeat to end of round. Finish off and weave in end. Skip to "finishing top of hat".

Preteen/Teen Size

1. Leave a long tail in the beginning to use later. With N hook and super bulky weight yarn, chain 30, sl st in last ch from hook to join in a loop. Make sure chain is not twisted. Note: This could be started with a foundation chain instead if preferred. 2. Sc, hdc 3, 2hdc in next st, \*hdc 4, 2hdc in next st\*, repeat to end of round. Do not join. Place marker for working in continuous rounds. (36sts) 3. \*hdc 5, 2hdc in next st\*, repeat to end of round. (42sts) 4. Hdc in each st to end of round. 5. \*fphdc, sc in FLO of next st\*, repeat to end of round. Check stitch count. There should stilbe 42sts. 6. Repeat previous round until hat measures 7.5" from starting edge, or longer if desired. 7-8. \*sc in FLO, sc in BLO\*, repeat to end of round. Finish off and weave in end. Skip to "finishing top of hat".

Adult Size

1. Leave a long tail in the beginning to use later. With N hook and super bulky weight yarn, chain 30, sl s in last ch from hook to join in a loop. Make sure chain is not twisted. Note: This could be started with a foundation chain instead if preferred. 2. Sc, hdc 3, 2hdc in next st, \*hdc 4, 2hdc in next st\*, repeat to end of round. Do not join. Place marker for working in continuous rounds. (36sts) 3. \*hdc 5, 2hdc in next st\*, repeat to end of round. (42sts) 4. \*hdc 6, 2hdc in next st\*, repeat to end of round. (48sts) 5. \*fphdc, sc in FLO of next st\*, repeat to end of round. Check stitch count. There should still be 48sts. 6. Repeat previous round until hat measures 8.5" from starting edge, or longer if desired. 7-8. \*sc in FLO, sc in BLO\*, repeat to end of round. Finish off and weave in end. Skip to “finishing top of hat". Finishing Top of Hat Choose from one of the options below: Option 1 (Flat edge top): Lay beanie on a flat surface. This creates 2 "layers" at the top of the beanie. Line up top edges. With yarn needle and beginning yarn tail, sew the two layers together. Weave in end. Option 2 (Rounded edge top): With yarn needle and beginning yarn tail, weave in and out of stitches from beginning round. Pull to cinch in top opening. Pull tight and tie a knot. Weave in end. Giant Pompom: Cut a piece of yarn 8" long and set aside. Wrap 1 strand of yarn 60 times (or 2 strands 30 times) around your fingers spread as far apart as possible. Carefully slide yarn off fingers and set on a flat surface. Wrap the 8" piece of yarn around center of strands and pull as tight as possible. Wrap yarn around again and tie a knot. Hold onto these yarn tails and use them to tie pompom to top of hat. Use a sharp pair of scissors to trim pompom as desired.
