The pattern instructions are charted and written out, so choose your favorite method to follow. Be brave and face your little obstacles - and before you know it, this hat will be done! Make it for yourself or as a thoughtful gift for a loved one. The stitch pattern is neutral enough to look equally good for all ages and genders - from “Beautiful Baby Knots!" through “Tough Teenager Knots!" to “Grumpy Grandpa Knots!" there is one to make for everyone!
Materials
\* Filcolana Peruvian Highland Wool [100% Wool; 109 yards/100 meters per 50g skein]; color: 259 Lavender; 2 skeins. \* US 6 [4 mm] 24" (60cm) circular or set of DPNs \* US 8 [5 mm] 24" (60cm) circular or set of DPNs \* One stitch markers \* Tapestry needle

To fit an average adult head. Will stretch to comfortably fit up to 24 inches.

17.5 stitches and 25 rounds per 4" [10 cm] on larger needles in Stockinette stitch after blocking - save time by checking the gauge

Directions
Using US 6 [4 mm] needles CO 88 sts using Long Tail Cast On method. Place marker and join to begin working in the round, being careful not to twist. Set up round: purl all sts. Rounds 1 - 15: [p1, k3] to end. Change to larger needles. Next round: purl all sts. Next rounds 1 -- 3: knit all sts. Next round 4: [k5, make 3 sts out of 3 sts] repeat to end. Next rounds 5 -- 7: knit all sts. Next round 8: purl all sts. Next rounds 9 -- 11: knit all sts. Next round 12: [k1, make 3 sts out of 3 sts, k4] repeat to end. Next rounds 13 - 15: knit all sts. Next round 16: purl all sts. Repeat last 16 rounds 2 more times and then rounds 1 - 8 one time. [For longer version, work Rounds 9 - 16 once more.]
Shape Crown
Next round 1: [k9, k2tog] to end. Next round 2: knit to end. Next round 3: k9, ssk, [k8, ssk] to 9 sts before end, k8, ssk knitting together last st of the round with a first st of the next round. Next round 4: knit to end. Next round 5: k7, s2tog-kl-p2sso, [k6, s2tog-k1-p2sso] to 8 sts before end, k6, s2tog-k1- p2sso knitting together last 2 sts of the round with a first st of the next round. Next round 6: k5, s2tog-k1-p2sso, [k4, s2tog-k1-p2sso] to 6 sts before end, k4, s2tog-k1- p2sso knitting together last 2 sts of the round with a first st of the next round. Next round 7: k3, s2tog-k1-p2sso, [k2, s2tog-k1-p2sso] to 4 sts before end, k2, s2tog-k1- p2sso knitting together last 2 sts of the round with a first st of the next round. Next round 8: k1, [s2tog-k1-p2sso] to 2 sts before end, s2tog-k1-p2sso knitting together last 2 sts of the round with a first st of the next round.
Finishing
Cut yarn and thread through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten off. Weave in ends, and block the hat lightly. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to my wonderful testers, whose hard work and invaluable help made this pattern possible.
