CO 20o sts loosely (use a larger needle if necessary). K 1 row. Join in the round. You can throw caution to the wind and just join in the round. It doesn't matter if your sts are twisted. If you don't want a scarf with a twist, take care to make sure they are not twisted. Place a marker for beginning of the round. K in round for 1". From this point the pattern can be worked two different ways. If you are a beginner, work as follows: At marker switch to purling your sts. Alternate purling for 1" and knitting for 1" until there are a total of 4 k bands. At the end of the 4th k band, bind off loosely (use a larger needle if necessary). If you are an adventurous advanced beginner or intermediate, try this (no purl) method: \*When you have k 1", W&T and k in the other direction. When you reach the wrapped st, M1, k2tog, then continue to k until 1"\*; rep from \* to \* until you are at the end of the 4th k band, bind off loosely (use a larger needle if necessary). Don't block it as you will loose the fun puffiness of the alternating bands of k and p. Just to complicate matters further, you can choose a particular color change in the skein to make your W&T. In the sample pictured, I worked my W&T whenever I reached the bright pink. It didn't really matter if I was at the marker or not and it worked out to be about 1" rounds.
