Arm Cozies
Dakota Designs Original Pattern My son suggested that I make my daughter in law a pair of fashionable wrist warmers/fingerless gloves. Three days before Christmas I was inspired by some yarn and got started, this is the result. You can use any worsted weight yarn, but I suggest you find one that is soft and squishy!
Size
This pattern will make a size medium pair of Cozies, hand xxx " around. For a smaller or larger Cozies, measure the widest part of your hand, figure out your gauge and tweek the number to be a multiple of 4. The thumb gusset could be 11, 13, or 15 stitches -- just try it on as you are knitting.
Gauge
5 st / inch, 6.5 rows/inch on size 7 needles -- or size to give gauge.
Needles
7" Size 7 double pointed needles
Yarn
1 skein of Zitron Opus 1 (with Aloe and Jojoba) -- yummy The color shown is rusts/brown color 100.
Cuff
Cast on 32 stitches using a VERY LOOSE cable cast on (make a loop and knit into it, pulling the knitted stitch back over the end of the needle, knit all subsequent stitches in the space between stitches).

It is necessary to have a loose cast on, or it will be tight when you pull the Cozy upwards on your arm. Knit a 2" ribbing (K2 P2)
Body
You are going to make a series of reverse stockinette bands, which will give your Cozy the right kind of scrunchiness to look cool, and keep your forearms warm Knit 4 rounds stockinette stitch Knit 5 rounds reverse stockinette stitch (purl each round) Knit 8 rounds stockinette stitch Knit 3 rounds reverse stockinette Knit 8 rounds Stockinette Knit 1 round reverse Stockinette Knit 8 rounds Stockinette Knit 3 rounds reverse Stockinette Knit 8 rounds Stockinette Knit 5 rounds reverse Stockinette Knit 4 rounds Stockinette
Thumb Gusset
I like a thumb gusset. It is NOT that much trouble to knit AND it is much more comfortable for your hand. Knit 5 stitches, place marker do a MIL increase (use the left needle to pick up the strand between stitches from the front to the back of the strand and then knit into the BACK of the picked up strand) Knit 1 stitch, then do a MIR increase (use the left needle to pick up the strand between stitches from the back to the front of the strand and knit into the front of the stitch). Place a marker. Finish knitting the round. Knit a plain round, then do the 2 increases again, between the mark

ers. Keep doing this increase round, plain round until you have 13 stitches between the markers.
The Hand
Once you have the required number of stitches between your markers, remove the markers, and place the stitches on a scrap piece of yarn, then use the backward loop method to make a stitch before continuing to knit the rest of the stitches (without the thumb stitches) on that needle. Keep knitting plain rounds until you are about 1" from where you want to stop knitting. Some people want this glove part to go up to the knuckles, some want it to cover the knuckles, it's purely a matter of preference! Once you are ready do about 7-8 rows of ribbing -- or 1" of ribbing and cast of loosely.
The Thumb
Now go back to the thumb and place the 13 stitches on 3 needles (4 st per needle) and pick up 3 stitches near the hand side, for a total of 16. Do a K2 P2 ribbing for about 4-5 rounds and bind off. Make the second Cozy just like the first -- there is no right or left handedness to these! Enjoy having nice warm arms, wrists and hands!
