Knit me a Shrug, by Danskknit
This shrug pictures a delicate and feminine lace for babies, young girls and cherished dolls. In cotton or bamboo it will be perfect with a dress on a summer evening. Knitted in wool or any other warm yarn, it will bring the heat needed during winter and cold autumn days. Pattern comes with two ribbing options for a different look. The rib edge forms a collar around the neck and it's up to you to decide if you will fold the back edge or not. Regarding the sleeves, they are intended to end just abovetheelbows.

Shrug
With needles US #5 and CC, C0 26 (34, 42, 46, 54, 62, 70, 70) sts. Work 1.5 (2, 2.5, 3.25, 3.5, 3.75, 4, 4.25) inches in 1/3 ribbing in this manner: Right side: k1, place sm, \*K1, P3\*, place sm, K1. Wrong side: P1, slip sm, \*K3, P1\*, slip sm, P1. In the last row of ribbing (Ws), remove stitch marker and make 1 (2, 3, 0, 1, 2, 3, 3) decreases evenly across the row. You now have 25 (32, 39, 46, 53, 60, 67, 67) sts and you finished with a WS and are ready to begin on the Rs. With MC: K2, place sm, knit row 1 of Pattern A, place sm, K2. You will work pattern A starting and ending every right side with K2 and every wrong side with P2. This way, you are working 2 sts of stockinette st, 21 (28, 35, 42, 49, 56, 63, 63) sts of Pattern A and 2 sts of stockinette st. Work Pattern A until work measures 9.5 (14.25, 16.25, 19.25, 21, 23.5, 24.25, 26) inches from CO, working the final row 8 (the one before switching to ribbing) in CC. With CC, work 1.5 (2, 2.5, 3.25, 3.5, 3.75, 4, 4.25) inches in 1/3 ribbing, making 1 (2, 3, 0, 1, 2, 3, 3) increases in the first ribbing row. You now have 26 (34, 42, 46, 54, 62, 70, 70) sts. Right side: k1, \*K1, P3\*, K1. Wrong side: P1, \*K3, P1\*, P1. Bind off loosely and block.
Sleeves
am 2.25 (3, 3.5, 4.5, 5, 5.5, 6, 6.5) inches of the ribbed cuff and body, on both sides.

Edge For every 4 sts around the opening, pick up 3 sts with circular needle US #5 (the final number of stitches picked up has to be divisible by 4). Place a stitch marker between last and first st as you will now work in the round. With CC, work 1.5 (2, 2.5, 3.25, 3.5, 3.75, 4, 4.25) inches in 1/3 ribbing (\*K3, P1\*). Bind off loosely. The edge willfold and will create a \*K1,P3\* ribbing, identical to the sleeves. Fold the back section of the edge to wear.
Ribbing option # 2
The pattern is written for the shrug to reveal a K1, P3 ribbing. If you would like the ribs to look like K3,P1, follow the instructions below. With CC, for the sleeves you will work 1/3 ribbing, but like this: Right side: k1, \*K3, P1\*, K1. Wrong side: P1, \*K1, P3\*, P1. For the edge, with CC you will work 1/3 ribbing but like this: \*K1, P3\* across. When you fold the edge, it will create a K3,P1 ribbing, identical to the sleeves.

Photo Tutorial 1. Shrug is knitted from side to side, starting with the ribbing.

2. When finished, you will have a rectangle that you will fold in 2. You will sew the extremities (the ribbing and the beginning of the body) together to make sleeves.

3. You will then pick up stitches along the opening for the ribbing edge.
