Using a pompom maker or cardboard circles, make 3 pompoms in Colour 2. Trim to approximately 3cm (1 14") in diameter.

Gather the top of the hat together using the ends of the scrap yarn. Join two marked stitches together with a wool needle using double back stitch (see below left).

Using whip stitch, continue sewing up the point of the hat (see above right) Repeat with double backstitch and whip stitch for remaining raw edges. Sew a pompom securely onto each point as shown in top image. Remove marker yarn and darn in all yarn ends.

Make it your own:

In case you are not a fan of Houses Gryffindor, Lannister or McDonalds, make the hat using your favourite team colours. Use variegated yarn or even scrap yarn or for a piebald look. ? Mix up the stripes or go for a solid colour for impact. Use intarsia to add visual interest. Incorporate basket stitch, moss stitch etc in the body section for texture. Annoy your friends; replace the pompoms with bells. "And don't call me Shirley."
