Yarn 1 skein (50 g) of DK weight yarn. (e.g. Artesano 100 % Alpaca DK, 50g = 100m) Needle 3.5 mm (US 4) DPN's Gauge 21 st, 31 rows = 10 cm (4 in)
Start
CO 30 stitches, divide evenly on DPNs, join round and place a marker at the joining poin
Edge
Knit 3 rounds. Turning row: \*yo, k2tog\*, rep \*-\* until the end of row. Knit3rounds. After finishing the mitten, turn the hem at the turning row and stitch in place.
Wrist
Decrease row: \*k8, k2tog\*, rep \*-\* 2 more times. 27 stitches. Rows 1-2: p1, k1, p1, k2, p1, k2, p1, k2, \*p1, k1\*, \*-\* to the end of row. Row 3: p1, k1, \*p1, lift 1 st on front on a cable needle, k1, k the lifted st from the cable needle\*; rep \*-\* 2 more times, \*\*p1, k1\*\* rep \*\*_\*\* to the end of row. Repeat rows 1-3 until the wrist has the desired length (8 more times in the example). Knit rows 1-2 once more.
Right hand
Increase row: k7, m1, k7, PM, m1, k1, m1, PM, knit to end. With the first 15 st, knit the pattern shown in the chart. With the next 12 st, knit. The last stitches between the markers are for thumb increases. On the end of each row marked with an "M" in figure 2, LM, m1, knit to marker, m1, LM. On the end of the row 25 (marked yellow in the chart), move the 9 st between the markers onto a piece of scrap yarn to wait. Co 1 st between the markers. Continue until the end of the pattern.
Left hand
Increase row: k7, m1, knit to 1 st before M, PM, m1, k1, m1, LM. With the first 15 st, knit the pattern shown in the chart. The stitches between the markers are for thumb increases.With the last12st,knit. mb markers on each row marked with an "M" in figure 2, LM, m1, knit to marker, m1, LN On row 25 (marked yellow in the chart), move the 9 st between the thumb markers onto a piece of scrap yarn to wait. Co 1 st between the markers. Continue until the end of the pattern.
Top edge
Knit 3 rows. Turning row: \*yo, k2tog\*, rep \*-\* until the end of row. Knit 3 rounds. Bind off loosely. After finishing the mitten, turn the hem at the turning row and stitch in place.
Thumb
Pick the 9 thumb stitches from the scrap yarn on 3 DPN's. Pick 1 st from between the markers by knitting. Knit 3 rows. For the last 3 rows, repeat k1, p1. Bind off loosely.
