Materials
Set of US 9 - 5.5 mm needles or size needed to obtain gauge 210-275 yards of worsted weight yarn. I recommend using a soft, washable yarn, such as a cotton/ acrylic blend, as this will be next to a baby's skin, and will most likely get dirty.

Pattern
Rows 1-8: Work in stockinette stitch (Knit rows 1, 3, 5, and 7, purl rows 2, 4, 6, and 8.) Row 9: Knit 17 (18, 19), C6B, knit to end of row. Rows 10-18: Work in stockinette stitch (Knit rows 11, 13, 15, and 17, purl rows 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18.) Row 19: Knit 17 (18, 19), C6F, knit to end of row Row 20: Purl Back Cast on 44 stitches using preferred method. Work rows 1-20 of Pattern until back measures 9 1/2 (10, 10 1/2) inches from cast on, bind off. Left Front Cast on 40 (42, 44) stitches, work in pattern for 2 1/2 (2 3/4, 3) inches. Next Row (Row 1): K2tog, knit to end. 39 (41, 43) stitches. Rows 2, 4, and 6: Purl Row 3: K2tog, knit to end. 38 (40, 42) stitches. Row 5: K2tog, knit to end. 37 (39, 41) stitches. Row 7: K2tog, knit to end. 36 (38, 40) stitches. Row 8: Knit Row 9: K2tog, knit to end. 35 (37, 39) stitches. Row 10: Knit Row 11: K2tog, bind off all stitches.
Right Front
Cast on 40 (42, 44) stitches, work in pattern for 2 1/2 (2 3/4, 3) inches. Jext Row (Row 1): Knit until last 2 stitches, K2tog. 39 (41, 43) stitches. Rows 2, 4, and 6: Purl Row 3: Knit until last 2 stitches, K2tog. 38 (40, 42) stitches. Row 5: Knit until last 2 stitches, K2tog. 37 (39, 41) stitches. Row 7: Knit until last 2 stitches, K2tog. 36 (38, 40) stitches Row 8: Knit Row 9: Knit until last 2 stitches, K2tog. 35 (37, 39) stitches. Row 10: Knit Row 11: Bind off all but last 2 stitches, K2tog, finish binding off Sleeve (Make 2) Cast on 24 (25, 26) stitches Work in garter stitch (knit all rows) for 5 rows Switch to stockinette stitch, increase (KFB) on both side edges on the next row and every 4th row after that, until you have 32 (35, 38) stitches. Continue working in stockinette stitch until sleeve measures 6 1/2 (7 1/2, 8) inches, bind off.
Finishing
Attach left and right fronts to back with shoulder seams, then attatch sleeves at shoulders. Finally seam long sleeve seams and side seams. For bottom border, pick up stitches all around bottom edge of sweater, and work 3 rows in garter stitch. Bind Off. To make collar, pick up stitches around neck, and work 5 rows in garter stitch. Bind off. If desired, you may sew on a button (or buttons) and make a small twisted cord to use as a button loop. Block lightly, if desired.
