About
Simple winter hat knitted in the flat with a contrasting band containing traditional Norwegian snowflakes. Finished circumference 54 cm.

Directions
Cast on 152 stitches in main colour.
Rib
In main colour: 12 rows. K2, \* P1, K2 \* to end P2,\*K1, P2 \* to end
Tension
28 stitches and 26 rows over 10 cm (4 inches) stocking stitch.
Main
In main colour: 4 rows stocking stitch. In contrast (band) colour: 2 rows stocking stitch. With one additional border stitch at the beginning and end of each row, follow colour chart (see right) for 10 repeats in stocking stitch. In contrast (band) colour: knit two rows stocking stitch. In main colour: knit three rows stocking stitch or as required to reach 12.5 cm (5 inches), finishing with right side next.

Decreases
For each decrease row-pair complete as follows: ■ \* KX, K2tog \* to last two stitches, K2 \* p \* to end Where X is 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 causing a 10-stitch decrease for each. For final two rows, starting with 22 stitches, decrease as follows: K1, \* K2tog \* to last stitch, K1 (12 stitches) \* P2tog \* to end (6 stitches)
Finishing
Leaving around 20 cm, cut yarn. Loop yarn through final six stitches inthe-round' twice and tighten to close top. Use remaining yarn to seam up edges using mattress stitch, absorbing one stitch from each side. weave in ends.
Variation
Knit band in main colour with snowflake pattern in contrast colour for an alternative look.
