Continue working in $_{2\times2}$ rib until workmeasures $1\,(1,\,1,\,1.5,\,2)^{\prime\prime}$ from cast on edge. On last row of ribbing, increase 0 (1, 0, 0, 1) st at the beginning and middle of the round. 0 (2, 0, 0, 2) sts increased. Next round: [k 8 (9, 10, 12, 13), p 8 (9, 10, 12, 13)], repeating [] to end of round. Repeat this round until work measures 5.5 (6.5, 8.5, 9.5, 10.5)" or desired length from cast on edge.
Arm shaping
At this point, you will now be working the front and back separately, working back and forth instead of in the round.
Front
RS: Bind off 3 (4, 4, 6, 7) stitches in knit, k 5 (5, 6, 6, 6), p 8 (9, 10, 12,13), k 8 (9, 10, 12,13), p 8 (9, 10, 12,13), k 8 (9, 10, 12,13). Place remaining stitches on scrap yarn or a stitch holder. These are the stitches for the back that will be worked later. WS: Bind off 3 (4, 4, 6, 7) stitches in purl, p 5 (5, 6, 6, 6), k 8 (9, 10, 12,13), p 8 (9, 10, 12,13), k 8 (9, 10, 12,13), p 5 (5, 6, 6, 6) Next row (RS): k 5 (5, 6, 6, 6), p 8 (9, 10, 12,13), k 8 (9, 10, 12,13), p 8 (9, 10, 12,13), k 5 (5, 6, 6, 6) WS: p 5 (5, 6, 6, 6), k 8 (9, 10, 12,13), p 8 (9, 10, 12,13), k 8 (9, 10, 12,13), p 5 (5, 6, 6, 6) These two rows set up Box A pattern. Continue in BOX A pattern, knitting over knit stitches and purling over purl stitches, until $\sqrt[3]{a}\;(1,\,1,\,1\,\,\%,\,1\,\,\%)^{\prime\prime}$ above armhole, ending with the RS facing you. Work across 13 (14, 16, 17, 18) sts in Box A patt, bind off center 8 (9, 10, 14, 15) sts, work to end in Box A patt. You will now work each side of the front separately.

Right front
Continue working in established Box A pattern until $1\,^{3}\!/4\,\big(2,\,2\,\mathcal{V}_{4},\,2.5,\,2\,^{3}\!/4\big)^{\prime\prime}$ above armhole. Now switch to Box B pattern: RS: k 8 (9, 10, 12,13), p 5 (5, 6, 6, 6) WS: k 5 (5, 6, 6, 6), p 8 (9, 10, 12,13) Work these two rows once. Shape neck RS: Bind off 2 (3, 3, 4, 4) sts at beg of row, follow Box B pattern to end. WS: Work Box B patt. RS: p2, p2tog, work in patt to end of row Repeat these 2 rows 2 times more. 8 (8, 10, 11, 12) sts. Work in patt until continuing until length from armhole measures $4\;(4\;\%,\;5,\;5\;\%,\;6)^{\prime\prime}$ . Place stitches on a holder or scrap varn. Left front Work as for right front, reversing all shaping. Back Now go back to the stitches you set aside for the back and place them on a needle with the right side facing. RS: Bind off3 (4, 4, 6, 7) stitches in purl, p 5 (5, 6, 6, 6), k8 (9, 10, 12, 13), p 8 (9, 10, 12, 13), k8 (9, 10, 12, 13), p 8 (9, 10, 12, 13). Turn work with wrong side facing. WS: Bind off 3 (4, 4, 6, 7) stitches in knit, k5 (5, 6, 6, 6), p 8 (9, 10, 12, 13), k 8 (9, 10, 12, 13), p 8 (9, 10, 12, 13), k 5 (5, 6, 6, 6). You should now have 34 (37, 42, 48, 51) sts on the needle. Next row (RS): p 5 (5, 6, 6, 6), k8 (9, 10, 12, 13), p 8 (9, 10, 12, 13), k 8 (9, 10, 12, 13), p 5 (5, 6, 6, 6) WS: k 5 (5, 6, 6, 6), p 8 (9, 10, 12, 13), k8 (9, 10, 12, 13), p 8 (9, 10, 12, 13), k5 (5, 6, 6, 6)

These two rows set up BOX A pattern. Continue in BOX A pattern, knitting over knit stitches and purling over purl stitches, until $1\,^{3}\!/4\,\big(2,\,2\,\mathcal{V}_{4},\,2.5,\,2\,^{3}\!/4\big)^{\prime\prime}$ abovearmhole. Now you will begin the second row of boxes: RS: k 5 (5, 6, 6, 6), p 8 (9, 10, 12, 13), k 8 (9, 10, 12, 13), p 8 (9, 10, 12, 13), k 5 (5, 6, 6, 6). WS: p 5 (5, 6, 6, 6), k 8 (9, 10, 12, 13), p 8 (9, 10, 12, 13), k 8 (9, 10, 12, 13), p 5 (5, 6, 6, 6). These two rows set up BOx B pattern. Continue in Box B pattern until second set of boxes is approximately 1.25 (2, 2.25, 2.5, 2.75)" high and then switch back to B0X A pattern, continuing until lengthfrom armhole matches the front.
Join shoulders
Place stitches for the back on a needle and the front on a second needle. Line up the front and back so that the right sides are together and the needles are facing the same direction. Use a threeneedle bind off to join shoulders together.

Sleeves (make 2)
Cast on 26 (26, 30, 30, 34) stitches. Work in 2x2 rib for $1\,(1,\,1\,\%,\,1\,\%,\,2)^{\prime\prime}$ . On last row of ribbing increase 0 (1, 0, 1, 0) st at end of each row. RS: k9 (9, 10, 10, 11), p 8 (9, 10, 10, 12), k 9 (9, 10, 10, 11) WS: p 9 (9, 10, 10, 11), k 8 (9, 10, 10, 12), p 9 (9, 10, 10, 11) Work these 2 rows, and AT THE SAME TIME increase 1 st at each end every 4 rows until work is $1\,\%$ $(2,2\,\%,2.5,2\,\%)^{\prime\prime}$ from end of ribbing. Now create box pattern by purling over knit stitches and knitting over purl stitches. Continue increasing every 4 rows until there are 36 (38, 42, 46, 50) sts and alternating box pattern every $1\,\%$ $(2,2\,\%,2.5,2\,\%)^{\prime\prime}$ until sleeve measures $6\,\%\,(7\,\%,8\,\%,9\,\%,10\,\%)^{\prime\prime}$ from cast on edge, including ribbing.Sleeve width should be approximately $8\,\%$ (9, 10, 11, 12)". Bind off 3 (4, 4, 5,6) at beginning of next 2 rows. Bind off all stitches. Sew sleeves into armhole and sew sleeve seams.
Collar
With RS facing, evenly pick up approximately 34 (38, 42, 46, 56) stitches, starting at the point where you shaped the neck, across the back and down the other side. Work in $_{2\times2}$ rib for 1 (1 %, 1 %, 2, 2 Y)" as k2 [p2, k2] to end. Bind off in rib.
Neck Placket
With RS facing, beginning at bottom of right front neck placket and up right front neck edge, including collar stitches, pick up stitches evenly (about 2 stitches for every 3 rows). Approximately 12 (14, 16, 18, 20) stitches. Work in 2x2 rib for $1\,(1,\,1\,\%,\,1\,\%,\,2)^{\prime\prime}$ .Bind off. Repeat for other side of the neck placket, working for $\%\big(\%,\,\%,\,\%,\,1\big)^{\prime\prime}$ Buttonhole row: work 2 (3, 4, 5, 2) stitches, repeat [yo, work 2 tog, work 2 sts] 2 (3, 3, 3, 4) times, work to end. Continue in rib pattern until measures 1 $.\,(1,1\,\gamma_{2},1\,\gamma_{2},2)^{\prime\prime}$ .Bind off. Sew bottom of neck placket to the center bound off stitches of the front. Make sure the side with the buttonholes rests on top. The neck plackets should overlap about halfway. Sew buttons on and weave in loose ends. Block as desired. This is the first pattern I have ever formally written up, so there are inevitably errors! Please bring them to my attention at fpknits at yahoo dot com.
