Mésange noire
by Nid de Vigogne Mésange noire means coal tit. A feather light pi shawl, playing with dark colors and transparency.

660 yards of lace yarn or more, worked with dpns and circular needles, bigger than those for the gauge. I used US 9, UK 5 ones. Finished measurements for 66o yards of yarn : about 45 inches. This shawl is worked E. Zimmermann's way : each section is twice larger (stitches number) and twice higher (rounds number) than the previous one. Cast on 9 st., Emily Ocker's way, with dpns. Knit 1 rd, then place the marker (you will slip it at the beginning of each round). Work an increase round : \*YO, K1\*, repeat from \* to \* until the end of the round (every increase round will be worked this way). Then, K 3 rds (18 st.). Work an increase rd (36 st.), then K 6 rds. Work an increase rd (72 st), then K 12 rds. Work an increase rd (144 st.), then K 24 rds. (You can switch for circular needles.) Lace section : Work an increase round (288 st.) : round, make 2 stitches, working a stitch from front and back loop (290 st. K for 5 rounds. Work the whole lace chart all over the rounds (29 times in each round), three times (i.e. 36 rounds). K for 6 rounds.
Chart :

symbols Yarn over Nupp : k5 st in 1, then next round k these 5 st together Slip 2 st together, knit 1 st, pass slipped stitches over knit Read the chart from right to left, bottom-up. Last section : Work an increase round (yo, K1, ..) K for 15 to 40 rounds, depending on your preference and on the quantity of yarn that you have (with 66o yards, I made 15 rounds), the 3 last rounds would look great in garter stitch. Finish with a picot bind-off, with a crochet hokk or the needles (\*cast on 2 stitches on left hand needle, bind-off 4 stitches, slip the stitch on left hand needle\*, and repeat). Block your shawl (wet) with pins, until it's totally dry. Tip : You can work nupps in just one round, with a crochet hook (use same size than the needles). Pick up 5 loops with the hook, then pull out the hook through the 5 loops.
