Terminology:
SC - single crochet Sl - slip stitch St - stitch DC - double crochet Ch- chain Yo - yarn over Tr - triple crochet
Instructions:
Make a slip knot. Ch 2. SC 6 times into the first Ch (or make a magic circle and make 6 SC in loop) pull tight SC 2 times into the next 6 Sc (12 St total) \*SC in the first St, make 2 SC in the next St, repeat from \* around (18 St total) \*SC in the next 2 St, 2 SC in next St, repeat from \* around (24 St total) Skip to Body for 3-12 months \*Sc in the next 3 St, 2 SC in next St, repeat from \* around (30 St total) Skip to Body for Toddlel \*SC in the next 4 St, 2 SC in next St, repeat from \* around (36 St total) Skip to Body for Child \*SC in the next 5 St, SC 2 SC in next St, repeat from \* around (42 St total) Skip to Body for Teen/Adult
Body:
SC in the round until hat measures 6.5" for 3-12 mo, 7.5" for Toddler,8" for Child and 10" for teen/adult from top. Bind off for beanie or go to Ear Flaps.
Car Flaps:
When you've reached the end of your round, SC in the next 5 st. Ch 1 and Turn. (5 st) SC decrease, sc 1, sc decrease, ch 1 turn (3 st) Sc in next three st, ch 1, turn Sc in next three st, bind off Fold hat in half to determine placement of other ear flap. Join yarn and work ear flap as above. Spikes -Make 3-5 Round 1: Make a slip knot. Ch 2. SC 6 times into the first Ch (or make a magic circle and make 6 SC in loop) pull tight (6 st) Round 2: Single crochet around (6 sc) Round 3: 2 single crochet in first stitch, 1 sc in next stitch - repeat around (9 sc) Round 4: Single crochet in each stitch (9 sc) ind 5: 2 single crochet in first stitch, 1 sc in next stitch - repeat around (14 sc) Round 6: Single crochet around (14 sc) Sl into next stitch and bind off leaving a long tail to use to sew onto hat. Cyes - Make 2 Round 1: With Black yarn make a slip knot. Ch 2. SC 6 times into the first Ch (or make a magic circle and make 6 SC in loop) pull tight (6 st) Round 2: Switch to white yarn and 2 SC in each st (12 st) Sl st in next st and bind off leaving a tail to sew eyes to hat Cyebrows -Make 2 Row1: SC 5, turn Row 2: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 3 ch (4 st) Sl st in last st worked and bind off leaving a tail to sew eyebrow to hat
Mouth/Teeth -
Using size H (5mm) hook Join red yarn at edge of ear flap. Work 3 SC in each st along front of hat, Bind off Switch to white yarn and join at corner of mouth. Sl first 2 st. \*Ch 2, yo insert into same st, yarn over and bring up a long loop (as tall as the ch 2), yo insert hook into next st, yo and bring up a long loop, yo and draw through all loops on hook. Yo and draw up a long loop in same st, yo and pull through loops, sl in next st., sl in next 5 st and repeat from \* to beginning of other ear flap.
Finishing Hat:
Sew spikes to top of hat, sew eyes into place then place eyebrows above and sew into place. Use a small amount of black yarn to sew triangle nostrils onto face below eyes.
Hat Sizing:
First Hat length should be followed to make a hat with a fold up brim. The second height should be used for making skull caps and hats with ear flaps. The diameter measure is how big across your circle should be when making increase rows for each size, when size is reached go to working every stitch (no increases) until hat length is achieved.
