Suggested Yarn: thin fingering or lighter Suggested Needle: 4.00 mm (US 6) Approximate Yardage: 5200 yards Cast On: 10 Stitches, join and knit around once. Work charts sufficient times to complete round. Rows not marked are worked as the stitches present, yarnovers being knit.

The Polestar in a starry sky dominates the center portion. The second section is derived from a picture of the "Nelson Island" pattern found in 'Arctic Lace' by D. Druchunas. Nelson Island has a resident herd of Musk Oxen. Surrounding the Nelson Island band is a stylized herd of Musk Oxen - Horns facing outward in the defensive position. This is surrounded in turn by 'Lemmings on the Tundra' - a mixed bag of floral motifs plus a scattering of Orenburg 'mouse prints'. The Edge is an adaptation of a lace found in an 1890's treasury - rechristened here as 'Bear Claw edge' , representing Ursus maritimus, the Arctic's largest predator.
