Pattern
On two circular needs, co 14s on each needle. Using the magic loop method, join in the round and knit \*K2, P2\* rib for 1 inch. Knit 1 repeat of the owl cable above. Knit a second owl, but on R4 P2tog on either side of each cable. Continue following the owl cable pattern, but replace the “"P3" with “P2". On R14 P2tog again on either side of the cable. Continue to the end of the second owl cable, but replace the “P3" with “P1", and in R17 replace “P5"with "P3". Knit \*K2, P2\* rib for 1 inch. BO, weave in ends. Repeat for second legging. Block.
Leggings
CO 84s in C1. \*K1, P1\* 2 rows. \*K1, P1, K1, P1, K2tog\* \*K1, P1\* 2 rows. On the last row pm every 14s. \*K to marker, M1\* Repeat row above more times. Knit to 6 14 inches from SE. On last row: K28, pm, K57, pm, K to end. Knit to marker, put stitches in between markers on a holder, join with the stitches on the other side of the markers and knit to the end. Knit 1.5 inches from the join, decreasing 5s every 6 rows 4 times, changing to dps when necessary. Change to C4 and knit 1 row. 1 row of braid stitch. Begin the leaf edging per the methods section, first slipping a stitch from the right needle to the left needle and knitting the slipped stitch together with the first stitch as the first K1. Continue working the leaf edging, but on every WS row, knit the last stitch of the row together with another stitch on the edge of the skirt, and on every RS row slip a stitch from the edge of the skirt onto the left needle and knit it together with the first stitch of the edging row. When all of the stitches around the edge have been knit off the needle, end on a WS row. BO until 5s are left, then continue to bo knitting through the selvedge edge of the beginning of the edging to join. Place the stitches on the holder onto the circular needle and repeat for the second leg. Weave in ends. Crochet chain stitch a 32 inch chain for the drawstring and weave through the holes in the waistband.
