By MangoBadango Designs rn: Fingering weight yarn, sample knit in Dream in Color Smooshy, 450 yard Knitting Needles: US 4 ( 3.5mm)

Other Notions: Cable Needle, Darning Needle Gauge: 6.5 stitches to the inch when blocked, stockinette. Gauge is only important for yardage.
Stitch Instructions

C6F: Place 3 stitch on cable needle, holding cable needle to the front, knit 3 stitches, then knit the 3 stitches from the cable needle K2Tog: Knit next 2 stitches together SSK: Slip next two stitches as if to knit, insert left needle in the front of the two slipped stitches and knit two together. CDD: (Center Double Decrease) Slip two stitches as if to knit, Knit the next stitch, Pass the slipped stitches over.
Cabling without a Cable Needle
C6F: With yarn in back, slip the first three stitches purl wise, knit the next three stitches. Insert the left needle tip knit wise through the three slipped stitches on the right needle. Carefully slide the first three stitches off of the right needle. The slipped stitches will remain on the left needle where it was placed and the three knitted stitches will be loose. Pick up the loose stitches purl wise with the right needle. Knit the next three stitches on the left needle.
Pattern Notes
There are three sections to this scarf, the Watson Chart, the middle which involves deduction if you so choose and the Sherlock chart. Note: By following the pattern as written the bottom of the scarf will roll until blocked. It is perfectly acceptable to knit a few rows of garter stitch to help prevent this.

Cast on 45 stitches Set Up: Row 1: Knit Row 2: Purl Row 3: K1,C6F, K31, C6F, K1 Row 4: Purl Repeat these four rows once more. Note: More repeats can be added to the beginning but this will affect yardage. WatsonSection: Follow instructions as written in Watson Chart (Page 3) If you want to flip this chart then you would begin with Row 67 and work in descending order. Middle: Once the Watson Chart has been completed continue following the cable pattern established in the set up section until the piece measures 52 inches. There were 85 repeats of the cable pattern in the sample. This is where the deduction comes in. If you do not desire counting rows for this part and just cabling when you feel like then do so. If you are afraid of running out of yarn then you will want to weigh your Watson section when finished to know the weight of yarn you will need for the Sherlock section. Sherlock fans may recall that he shot a few holes (8 to be exact) in the walls of Mrs. Hudson's apartment. If you would like to add a few bullet holes to your scarf, then add the following stitch pattern to two of your rows. These stitches may be added at any point in the row. Row 1(rs): ssk, yo, yo, k2tog Row 2(ws): When you reach the double yarn over, purl in the first yo and knit in the second yo Wendy from Knitters Brewing Company has a video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlyllencXhk SherlockSection: When the middle section of the scarf has been completed begin the Sherlock Section on page 4 of pattern. Follow the Sherlock Section starting at row 67 (RS) in descending order, i.e. row 65 would be the next right siderow. If you want to work from the bottom up then you would start with row 1, but this will make the pattern upside down if you are at the end of your scarf. Optional Smiley Section (Page 5): I have included a Smiley Chart minus the fleur de lis if you would like to include a smiley face on your scarf. Finish: End the scarf with repeating the Set Up rows in reverse order (Rows 4 to 1) 2 times. If you did a few rows of garter stitch at the beginning of your scarf you will want to do the same number of garter stitch rows at the end. Bind off using your favorite bind off method. Weave in ends and block. Copyright @ 2015 MangoBadango Designs MangoBadangoDesigns.Etsy.com
