Scratch Art Cowl designed by Erika Flory
The Scratch Art Cowl is a throwback to that great childhood art project of heavily coloring a piece of paper with wild colors of crayon, painting over it with black poster paint, and then scratching off the black to reveal the changing colors underneath. Knit in the round, the stripes spiral up to the black sections and then re-appear on the other side. The ends are grafted together. Please make sure to read the notes before starting. GAUGE
In Striped Stockinette stitch, 25 sts and 22 rnds = 4" after blocking. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain correct gauge. While exact gauge is not crucial, it will affect the size of the cowl and the amount of yarn used.

NOTES
-The stitch marker is placed at the joining of the round. when you are working the Striped Stockinette sections, do not use the marker to denote the beginning or end of the round: simply keep working the stripe sequence as if the marker weren't there. You will use the marker to note where you begin and end the different sections of Striped Stockinette and Main Color. -When working MC sections, carry CC up the inside of the cowl. -An excellent video tutorial on kitchener in the round can be found here: http://knitpurlhunter.com/blog/?p=1362
